Still Time to Participate in the May Garden Bloggers Challenge

GardenComm members on the Monetize-My-Blog Power Circle have created a free #GardenBloggersChallenge for fellow members and anyone else who would like to participate. The goal is to raise the profile of garden writing in general and GardenComm members' work in particular. It will run for the month of May and you can participate as much or as little as you want. There are 31 daily blog topics (and some bonus topics too!) that you can create a blog post, IG story, YouTube story, etc. about. Then, at the bottom of your post, you include the hashtag #GardenBloggersChallenge, some boilerplate language, and the challenge's logo art. For details, including a list of topics and bottom-of-post materials can be found on the GardenComm website here. Questions? Contact KathyJentz@gmail.com.

RBG Welcomes GardenComm in Region 7
The Royal Botanical Garden is excited to host GardenComm amidst the roses in bloom on Wed., June 15, 10:30 am–2:30 pm (time approx.).
Did you think nothing was fussier than roses? Well, in 2018, the RBG changed that perception when it reopened its redesigned, revitalized, sustainable Rose Garden. Next month for the first in-person Connect in Region 7 in two years, they'd love to tell us about their progress growing roses with fewer inputs and greater ecological benefit. They made similar changes to their Rock Garden in 2015, and would also love to share updates on that, too.
The Rose Garden Tent in Hendrie Park will be reserved for us to enjoy a lunch, and Alex Henderson (Curator of Collections), Jon Peter (Curator of Plant Records and Rock Garden expert) as well as RBG's Heads of Horticulture and Education are all keen to be involved.
Details will follow as they are worked out. While this is a Region 7 Connect, GardenComm members from other regions are welcome. If you know a garden communicator who might be interested in joining GardenComm, feel free to invite them, too.
If interested, Region 7 National Director Helen Battersby needs you to do three things:
- SAVE THE DATE, which was chosen for peak blooms and RBG availability.
- RSVP ASAP to helenebattersby@icloud.com to confirm you'll be there. Let's reciprocate the RBG's enthusiasm and generosity with a good turnout.
- Dust off your camera, your curiosity, and your in-person social skills.
If you're an out-of-towner, let me know if you need info about accommodations in nearby Hamilton. If we have sufficient numbers, I might even be able to organize a group rate.

How to grow an edible flower garden
Lifehacker
Planning your garden can be a challenge when it comes to weighing both form and function, but you don’t have to choose between a flower garden and an edible one. You can get the best of both worlds by planting an edible flower garden, which is perfect for adding a splash of color to your plate, as well as your yard.

10 tips to preserve places from the recent past
Saving Places
In the preservation world, the term “recent past” most commonly refers to historic places younger than 50 years old. Modernism, which is another term often associated with the recent past, is generally defined as a style that began to flourish in the United States in the 1930s. Both describe places and cultural resources that are among the most under-appreciated and vulnerable aspects of our nation’s heritage.
