We will be launching registration on June 1st. A few highlights include more educational events – from 12 education sessions in 2021 to 18 in 2022. That doesn’t even count the new plants and products presentation by Diane Blazek of The National Garden Bureau! And we will have 3 additional panel discussion on marketing, social media influencers and pitching to editors/publishers.
We will be utilizing the OrderEase platform once again and they have made upgrades to the show since last year. Mark 3-6 on September 29th for a preview day AND a kick-off speaker!

RBG Welcomes GardenComm in Region 7
The Royal Botanical Garden is excited to host GardenComm amidst the roses in bloom on Wed., June 15, 10:30 am–2:30 pm (time approx.).
Did you think nothing was fussier than roses? Well, in 2018, the RBG changed that perception when it reopened its redesigned, revitalized, sustainable Rose Garden. Next month for the first in-person Connect in Region 7 in two years, they'd love to tell us about their progress growing roses with fewer inputs and greater ecological benefit. They made similar changes to their Rock Garden in 2015, and would also love to share updates on that, too.
The Rose Garden Tent in Hendrie Park will be reserved for us to enjoy a lunch, and Alex Henderson (Curator of Collections), Jon Peter (Curator of Plant Records and Rock Garden expert) as well as RBG's Heads of Horticulture and Education are all keen to be involved.
Details will follow as they are worked out. While this is a Region 7 Connect, GardenComm members from other regions are welcome. If you know a garden communicator who might be interested in joining GardenComm, feel free to invite them, too.
If interested, Region 7 National Director Helen Battersby needs you to do three things:
- SAVE THE DATE, which was chosen for peak blooms and RBG availability.
- RSVP ASAP to helenebattersby@icloud.com to confirm you'll be there. Let's reciprocate the RBG's enthusiasm and generosity with a good turnout.
- Dust off your camera, your curiosity, and your in-person social skills.
If you're an out-of-towner, let me know if you need info about accommodations in nearby Hamilton. If we have sufficient numbers, I might even be able to organize a group rate.

Support grows for hydroponics as an organic production process
Greenhouse Grower
Greenhouse Grower reported on the ongoing debate over whether hydroponic production should be considered organic. As part of this discussion, the Coalition for Sustainable Organics recently joined with the Aquaponics Association, Western Growers, International Fresh Produce Association, Mulch & Soil Council, and The Scotts Company to file an amicus (friend of the court) brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

10 gardening mistakes to avoid at all costs
Architectural Digest
The idea of digging up your backyard can be intimidating. If you’re a green-thumb novice who is not sure how to start a garden, the fear of making a mistake can make you quit before you even start. “Gardening is not always a cheap hobby,” says Lara Hermanson, gardener and co-owner of Farmscape, an urban farming company in San Francisco and Los Angeles. “Home gardeners can rack up big bills by shopping at a nursery, only to get it home and have items fail, without knowing why.”

Why the plant biostimulant act is garnering strong industry support
Greenhouse Grower
The Biological Products Industry Alliance, an organization dedicated to fostering the use of biological technology including biopesticides, biostimulants, and biofertilizers, applauds the bipartisan introduction of the Plant Biostimulant Act of 2022 and thanks Congressman Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) and Congressman Jim Baird (R-IN) for sponsoring the bill. The act amends the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act to establish a consistent national definition for the new agricultural product category of “plant biostimulant” and specifically excludes such products, which are not pesticides, from FIFRA regulation.

Audio, the least stressful medium for news? Yes and no
journalism.co.uk
Cristina Puerta is a freelance journalist who works in online print - but has recently found herself reading less content and listening to more audio. Covering Brexit, the pandemic and other intense subjects brought about the change.
"Before I was listening just to music but since the pandemic I have developed an interest in podcasts which tackle a topic in-depth,” she says. "I'm usually the person who knows everything that is going on. Friends would continuously ask me to explain one thing or another in the news - but recently I have been answering 'no'.

What is the 'product' of journalism?
Poynter
For a long time, journalists thought the “product” they produced was articles. It isn’t and it never was. For most of the 20th century, the product was the physical newspaper. The product was double-sided paper thrown at the doorstep every morning. Reporters produced articles and they were packaged inside the product, like so many chips in a bag.

.SOCIAL MEDIA
One thing to always keep in mind when it comes to your social media strategy
The NAtional Law Review
Remember just because people don’t comment or like your social media posts doesn’t mean they aren’t noticing them or enjoying your content. It also doesn’t mean that your LinkedIn strategy isn’t working.
That’s because more than 90% of social media users don’t interact with content.
That means they observe and consume content but they don’t engage with it. They scroll and view their newsfeeds in invisible or lurker mode.

14 key elements to inspire social media users to share your content
Forbes
Companies describe the many methods marketers employ to help prospects and customers first find, then engage with and consider their brands as “content marketing.” Of course, consumers don’t always view these efforts as brands marketing to them, and if the content is valued by consumers, it can help the brands who posted it gain more exposure and build more credibility among target audiences.

Why distributed leadership is the future of management
MIT Management
Successfully leading a company into the future is no longer about 30-year strategic plans, or even 5- or 10-year roadmaps. It’s about people across an organization adopting a strategic mindset and working in flexible teams that allow companies to respond to evolving technology and external risks like geopolitical conflict, pandemics and the climate crisis.
