Domestic Shelters
After escaping abuse, finding a person who makes you feel safe can be like a breath of fresh air. Of course, coming to the point where you may be ready to even consider dating again varies from person to person. In a recent poll on DomesticShelters.org asking readers how long it took them to start dating again after leaving an abusive partner, roughly 40 percent of the 500 people who responded said they hadn’t dated since.

A collaborative modus operandi greases the wheels of healthcare, improves outcomes and ultimately impacts the "double bottom line" of people and profits. Since two potentially powerful results of collaboration are satisfied staff and healthier patients, it behooves nurse leaders to champion collaboration and healthy communication as praiseworthy means to myriad positive ends.

A shortage of registered nurses has become so severe at one South Dakota hospital that it’s actually been forced to close hospital beds.
Rapid City Regional Hospital has 417 licensed beds, but up to 20 of them are going unused each day, due to a lack of RNs, ABC affiliate "KOTA Territory News" reports. The hospital has even resorted to using temp nurses to fill the void, Laura Wightman, R.N., chief nursing officer for the hospital’s parent health system, tells the local TV station.

Her eighth-grade classmate kept asking her to have sex in the bathroom. Tired of the badgering, she asked a teacher’s aide for help, and the aide outlined a plan: Lure the boy. Meet him in the bathroom. Catch him in the act.
The 14-year-old girl agreed, but the impromptu sting operation went horribly wrong. Inside a bathroom stall at their Alabama middle school, the boy forced himself on her before anyone showed up to stop him. When nurses treated her, they found the kind of injuries caused by rape.

Social media is a powerful communication and connection tool that is being applied in healthcare environments for a range of purposes and audiences. Despite its many benefits, it does present some risks — the most common concern being the posting of private health information causing a HIPAA violation and legal liability. This points to the importance of having policies that specifically address social media and balance the risk of liability of the employer with the rights of employees.

Alcohol is the most common weapon used to facilitate sexual assault. Offenders use alcohol because it renders victims vulnerable, affects memory, and impairs judgment and physical ability. Its unique toxicological effects, widespread use, and ease of consumption make it ideal for offenders who commit sexual assaults. Of course, some of the same factors that make alcohol such a perfect weapon also present unique challenges for investigators, prosecutors, and other allied professionals in alcohol-facilitated sexual assault (AFSA) cases.
