The SANE 365 campaign is designed to help develop or strengthen sexual assault medical forensic services in communities that need assistance. Knowing that it can still be a challenge to talk to facility administrators about ways to strengthen support for patients, IAFN created SANE 365 to highlight and support hospitals in understanding their responsibility in the care of patients who have experienced sexual violence.

DOJ recently released the Research and Evaluation solicitation for FY2018. Created in 1995, OVW implements the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and subsequent legislation and provides national leadership on issues of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Since its inception, OVW has supported a multifaceted approach to responding to these crimes through implementation of grant programs authorized by VAWA.

Not far from the nation’s capital a number of years ago, the violent gang MS-13 introduced a 12-year-old runaway to sex trafficking by throwing a dirty mattress on the floor of a mechanic’s garage and requiring her to submit to sex with a line of customers.
Sadly, it was not an isolated incident. As Attorney General Jeff Sessions recently noted, “Gangs seek to profit off of the victimization of others through drug trafficking, extortion, murdering rivals, robbing innocent bystanders and trafficking vulnerable juveniles for sex.”
