Sexual assault is a profound violation of a person's body, sense of safety, and autonomy, and each survivor's needs are unique. We're fortunate in Windham and southern Windsor counties to have emergency rooms with skilled staff to provide critical services to victims.

Various medical groups are imploring CMS to postpone Medicare Access & CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 as the "complex" system may result in penalties for providers failing to meet CMS' standards, according to MedPage Today.
Under MACRA, physicians can participate in the Merit-Based Incentive Payment System or the Alternative Payment Models. MIPS consists of a weighted score of quality, resource use, meaningful use and practice improvement scores. Physicians have the opportunity to receive financial bonuses if they obtain good quality outcomes. However, many may face penalties if they fail to meet CMS' requirements.

A strict new timetable has been implemented after a survey found more than 9,400 rape kits that should have been tested still in police evidence lockers. Lawmakers committed money to keep the backlog from returning.
Victim advocates don’t believe the number of rapes is increasing. They believe more victims feel comfortable coming forward. Nationally, estimates range from as few as a quarter to no more than a third of sexual assaults being reported.

Last month, Vice President Biden penned a searing letter to the victim in a notorious Stanford University rape case. “I am filled with furious anger,” he wrote, “both that this happened to you and that our culture is still so broken.”
Biden’s letter encapsulated the national outrage that erupted when the woman’s attacker was sentenced to just six months in county jail. It was also a sharp reminder that one of the Obama administration’s most ardent policy initiatives has been a concerted campaign to end the scourge of sexual assault on college campuses.

A sexual assault was reported in Flower Mound about a month ago.
The victim reported her attack to the Flower Mound Police Department (FMPD), had a medical exam and also posted news of her assault on Facebook. She wanted to warn others that there were two predators in the area and reminded others to be more aware of their surroundings, with whom they interact and what they eat or drink.

For the purposes of this compendium, studies have been included if they relate to the topic of children exposed to violence broadly defined. Studies funded under NIJ’s CEV solicitation are included as well studies funded in other portfolios if they relate to the topic. The Teen Dating Violence studies are also included in the VAWA Compendium, which is publically available. This compendium only includes studies funded from 2010 forward.

Nurse practitioners who have the authority to prescribe controlled substances in the form of mental health drugs have prescribing patterns similar to physicians, new research shows.
"This demonstrates that nurse practitioners who have had unrestricted authority for prescribing controlled substances do not prescribe them in greater quantity or differently than their peers," said Tracy Klein, PhD, FNP, ARNP, from the Washington State University College of Nursing in Spokane.
