True number of FGM victims in capital is 'far more than figures show'

More than 2,000 victims of female genital mutilation have sought treatment at London hospitals in the past three years. The figures, revealed by the Standard, are the most dramatic illustration so far of the impact of the barbaric practice in the capital. They also show that 298 operations to reverse unlawful "cutting" of London women have been carried out.

According to a recent report by the United Nations on violence against women, almost a quarter of men surveyed in Asia have admitted to committing at least one rape. The survey conducted on ten thousand men from six countries in Asia is the first of its kind that examines the extent of violence against women and the reasons behind it. Out of the total who admitted to rape, half of them confessed to have done it more than once.
Prosecutors seek death penalty in India rape case

Prosecutors asked for a death sentence for four men who participated in the rape and murder of a 23-year-old student last December, a goal long sought by the victim’s family and many Indians who were horrified by the case. "There can be nothing more diabolic than a helpless girl put through torture," said Dayan Krishnan, a prosecutor, as arguments began in the trial’s sentencing phase.

FGM prevalence in Kenya is rampart in Africa, particularly in the rural Kenyan areas. Girls as young as 2-years-old have had to face the knife, but the most common ages are 7 to 10 years of age. Lesalian is a 10-year-old girl who had to undergo the FGM, known as Female Genital Mutilation or 'Female Cutting', in order to be married off to a 53-year-old man. Her story starts in a little marginalized village in Kenya’s ‘Maasai land’ when a baby girl is born.
