The International Association of Forensic Nurses a professional membership organization representing more than 3300 forensic nurses and other professionals who support and complement the work of forensic nurses worldwide. The Association establishes and improves standards of forensic nursing practice by fostering growth and development of the specialty. Many sexually assaulted teens seeking emergency room care don't receive recommended tests and prevention treatments for pregnancy and venereal disease, according to a new study.
Testing and treatment rates varied widely among 38 children's hospitals studied, from zero teens treated to almost 90 percent tested.

They describe the toolkit as supporting caregivers on their journey towards "trauma sensitivity".

The Army is placing medical officials in charge of substance abuse treatment for soldiers in the wake of a USA TODAY investigation that uncovered poor treatment and a spike in suicides among those suffering addiction.
Army Secretary John McHugh decided to shift oversight of the program back to the Army Medical Command to improve the counseling soldiers receive, an Army deputy assistant secretary, Anthony Stamilio, said in an interview. About 20,000 soldiers are screened each year for drug and alcohol abuse.

This project aims to increase the evidence base for the primary prevention of sexual and intimate partner violence in low and middle income countries. Researchers from low and middle income countries working in this field are invited to submit proposals to access funds to undertake research to advance our understanding of prevention. It is envisaged that a call for proposals is sent out on an annual basis via SVRI listserv, website and social media platforms. No unsolicited proposals will be accepted.

Hospitals are transforming the traditional way nurses change shifts to reduce the chance of errors and oversights in the transfer of information. A critical side effect: patients feel safe, included and satisfied.
Studies show that so-called bedside shift reports, with both nurses meeting in the presence of the patient during the handover, help nurses communicate better, not only with each other but with patients and their families. Studies show the approach helps reduce the number of patient falls and catch safety issues such as an incompatible blood transfusion and dangerous air bubbles that form in arteries.
