On the same day, the Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education of the House Appropriations Committee held a markup of a bill to fund these agencies for FY2013. IAFN signed on to a letter to the Committee from the Nursing Community urging support to provide $251 million for the Nursing Workforce Development programs (Title VIII of the Public Health Service Act), $150 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR), and $20 million for the Nurse-Managed Health Clinics (NMHCs) (Title III of the Public Health Service Act) grants.

She was stunned and alone on a desolate stretch of beach in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, trying to comprehend what had just happened. She had been raped, she says, surprised by an attacker who had crept aboard her one-person rowboat in the middle of the night and forced his way into the boat's cabin, where Gibbons had been sleeping, peacefully lulled by the waves.
