I’ve always believed there’s a psychology to your surroundings which influences the way people feel. And since I love making people happy, this field allows me to transform their spaces to do just that. So, I got my interior design degree and worked for 10 years before finally opening up GreyHunt. And now, although this seems hard to believe, this January officially marks GreyHunt’s 10th anniversary in business!
A new year means new trends and I’ve got some I’m excited to share for 2019!

I actually wanted to become an architect first. When I was a child, instead of building random sets and things with Lego’s, I built houses and structures. In middle school I began taking hand drafting classes and continued this into high school. This is when I started working on my own floor plans and elevations. I began at Lawrence Technological University with a major in architecture, but at the end of my first year, I declared myself a dual major with Interior Architecture & Design. I dropped architecture at the end of my third year and focused solely on Interior Architecture & Design. The rest is history!

Will 2019 be another banner year for remodeling and renovation, or will firms begin to experience a softening in demand? As the new year gets underway, the answer seems to be that it depends on which part of the market you are looking at. Early indicators point to ongoing demand but a decrease in the size and value of projects. Results from the just-released Q1 2019 Houzz Renovation Barometer show "a mixed degree of caution about market conditions among contractors, architects and designers," states Houzz principal economist Nino Sitchinava.

“The present is pregnant with the future,” Voltaire famously remarked centuries ago. His sage observation holds true today vis-à-vis 2019’s top commercial interior design trends. The most significant developments in the field became evident in 2018 and will dominate the landscape in 2019 as well: the rising importance of psychographics, sustainability, wellness, community and authenticity.

Advances in technology are being made at such a quick pace that it’s just about ¬impossible to keep up. It seems as though as soon as you imagine something – which may not even be invented yet – someone in the world is already working out a way to make it possible. These changes are not isolated to any one industry, and they are funda¬mentally shifting the way the human race ¬interacts with its surroundings. Unsurprisingly, one arena that’s seeing a huge variety of tech-driven change is home and office decor.

So, you're a designer with an "intuitive eye for scale and proportion." Or, you're a showroom manager who sells furniture that "connects people, technology and space." So what? What does that mean? What’s in it for me? Those are the questions that all your prospects ask, all of the time. And those are the questions that so many design professionals and industry partners fail to answer on their websites, in their social networking, and in their marketing materials.

Even by the standards of eclectic Paris bookstores, the personal library in the back of Studio 7L is immense, about 80,000 volumes. The breadth of the collection offers a window into the roving mind of its proprietor, Karl Lagerfeld, who sits at the head of a table in an immaculate Dior Homme suit. Around him are just a fraction of the more than 250,000 books in his possession, scattered all over his homes.
