Vanity Tops
Designer and New York Chapter President, Julie Schuster, keeps active in the design community. One of her functions is serving as Brand Ambassador for Robern Bath Cabinets and Vanities. Her recent contributions were featured in the company's new "Vanity Tops" brochure, released for KBIS 2017 in Orlando, Florida.
An Alaskan Retreat
December in Juneau, Alaska, is an idyllic picture: a couple of feet of snow, 17 hours of starry nights and Christmas lights galore. With the right place to come home to, it can be a cozy destination for the holidays.
But for one of the first log cabins ever built in the town, its aged master bathroom lacked the lighting or the comfort critical for this dark and cold season. Designer Jason Clifton of Junaeu-based Bauer/Clifton Interiors stepped in to turn this atypical rustic home into a true winter retreat.
Trade Affiliations and Why they Matter

What do you do when the going gets tough? Where do you find the strength, creativity and stamina when you feel like you're running on empty? As an interior designer working in New York City, I've been thinking a lot about my answers to these questions as of late, and I keep coming back to the groups I belong to — the colleagues and friends that have emerged from them, and the amazing work i see from the companies I do business with. No one gets involved in creative endeavors like interior design because it's the "easiest path to make a living." We do it out of love. Out of passion. Because we want to share our gifts by creating beauty in our living spaces and enriching the lives of our clients.

Olamar Interiors is the grand-prize winner from the Sustainable Furnishings Interiors Design Contest
On Oct. 21, SFC celebrated 10 years of serving the furnishings community.
The organization's second decade started in the same space where it all began in the fall of 2006. The celebratory review, MC'ed by Libby Langdon, included exciting announcements, stirring speeches, and a great party on the top floor of the Union Square Building.

Nicole Arnold Interiors Honored by American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Texas at Annual 2016 Legacy of Design Awards
Nicole Arnold Interiors garnered two awards in the residential category: Bathroom (under $30,000), 2nd Place, and Bathroom ($30,000-$50,000), 2nd Place.
This has been a stellar year to-date for Nicole Arnold Interiors. In addition to the ASID Texas Legacy awards, the firm received the 2016 ASID, Dallas Design Community’s “Design Ovation” project award. Arnold also garnered leadership and project awards from The Interior Design Society (IDS) and was selected as one of the top 20 best interior designers by Freshome, a noted online magazine that focuses on interior design and architecture. Most recently, the firm placed 2nd in the 2016 Addison Reader’s Choice Awards for Best Interior Designer.

 “Christmas at Designers’ Homes Across America,” available in bookstores since August 28, 2016, features the home of Little Rock interior designer Shayla Copas. Her beautiful living room graces the cover of this unique 256-page book. Also featured, are homes of 22 leading designers, including Christopher Radko (of vintage ornament fame) and Joe Ruggiero (host of HGTV’s Homes Across America). Almost 400 color images treat readers to dazzling holiday visions usually seen only by family and friends. “I am honored to be included among so many talented designer across our nation”, Copas said. “I am looking forward to the launch party which will take place at the Governor’s Mansion on November 1, 2016 at 6 pm. That night a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will be given to Children’s Advocacy Centers of Arkansas. An Architectural Digest Top 100 designer shares her own ingenious d-i-y recycling of broken ornaments. Many share tips for decorating the tree and caring for much-loved ornaments. Award-Winning Interior Designer Published Via Several Media Outlets
Ami Austin, founder of Ami Austin Interior Designs and P&B Design Source, was recently featured in an article in Click Magazine regarding her inspiration for interior design and several design projects. Photos and descriptions of Austin's design projects were also published by HGTV Magazine in the "Professionals" online section. Austin was also a recent guest on Episode 160 of the Million Dollar Decorating podcast. The podcast episode can be found here.

SFC's #GetYourGreenOn interior design competition got off to a grand start in 2016 as the organization celebrated its TENth Anniversary. Winners Robin Wilson, Dann Foley, Paola McDonald, Sheree Vincent and Rachel Winokur join SFC DESIGNINGreen Leader Angelo Surmelis for a discussion of the choices they made in executing their winning designs. The panel discussion will also serve as the launch of the 2017 competition — come for the 2016 winners' inspiration and to be early getting involved in the 2017 competition!

Product Innovation Challenge from the Plumbing Place
In celebration of our 30th anniversary, The Plumbing Place, Sarasota's finest decorative plumbing and hardware showroom is hosting the 2016 Product Innovation Challenge. The Plumbing Place is well known for featuring the most cutting-edge kitchen and bath products available. It is in this spirit of innovation that applicants are invited to submit entries in any one of five categories. Cash prizes will be awarded in each category. An additional grand prize will be awarded to the overall winner whose submission will also be considered for development by one of our select manufacturers.
Conceptual Products will be judged for innovation, creativity, aesthetic appeal, functionality, practical usefulness and uniqueness. Have you ever said to yourself — "Wow, wouldn't it be great if a faucet did this, or looked like this?" Or how about a piece of furniture that had a feature that nobody has thought of? Now is your chance to share your invention for little effort and no cost. It's like "Shark Tank" meets HGTV.

Information on CEU change for IDS Associate members
As of January 1, 2017, IDS Associate members must earn a minimum of 0.4 (4 hours) approved continuing education units (CEU) each year. Please make note of the following helpful information regarding CEUs and CEU filing to maintain your Associatel level membership in IDS.
IDS bylaws and policies require Professional and Associate members to meet the continuing education requirement. The IDS continuing education requirement is separate from any mandated continuing education requirement in your local jurisdiction. Check with your state regulatory board for requirements.
Filing CEUs
IDS members must utilize the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) registry to file CEUs. Each IDS member must create a free account through IDCEC. Once you have created your IDCEC account, you will receive a unique IDCEC number to login into the IDCEC website (your IDCEC number is different than your IDS member number). The IDCEC user registry allows you to upload and track your continuing education activity as well as store a record for you under your account. Check your IDCEC account regularly to ensure your records are up-to-date. At the end of each CEU cycle, you will be required to submit your IDCEC report to the IDS National office to verify that you have fulfilled your CEU requirement.
Special Circumstances
IDS may grant an adjustment to the requirement for individuals experiencing poor health, certified by a physician; a specific physical or mental disability, certified by an appropriate health care professional; extended duty with the armed forces; or for extreme hardship, which, in the board’s judgment, makes it impossible for the member to comply. Requests for an adjustment to the continuing education requirement must be made at least two months (by October 30) prior to the end of the current reporting period.
Noncompliance
At the end of a reporting period, members who have failed to meet the CEU requirements will be subject to a non-compliance fee ($10 per CEU). Any member who fails to comply with the continuing education requirement, including payment of the noncompliance fee, may be subject to devaluation of Professional membership.
