Demand for Interior Designers Growing
Appleton Post-Crescent
The Bureau of Labor Statistics forecasts a promising job outlook for interior designers, which accounted for 56,500 jobs in 2010 but is expected to grow 19 percent, or by 10,900 positions between 2010 and 2020. There were 56,500 interior designer jobs in the country in 2010, the bureau estimated. That number was expected to increase another 10,900 by 2020. The recovering markets of new-home construction and commercial building as well as heightened activity in home remodeling is increasing demand for people with interior design skills.
Inviting the Garden Inside
The New York Times
Tovah Martin can’t live without plants, so in the winter, she makes her garden indoors. Even when it falls to zero outside, as it did last week, there is a forest of pale green ornamental kale flowering in the east window. And the fern in her bedroom window upstairs has vigorous green fronds, loaded with spores. Meet Polypodium formosanum, the grub fern.
Vanilla Ice Turns Interior Designer
The Independent
We might not have heard much from Vanilla Ice since his appearance on Jedward's 2010 single, "Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)" (what do you mean you don't remember? ), but it turns out that the rapper has been busy carving out a career in interior design. Teaming up with Capitol Lighting, the 45-year-old has just launched his own range of chandeliers. "The transitional design and unique silk shades with crystal detail make this fixture truly an original, just like Vanilla Ice… Bling it on!" reads the website.

Living in Sepia
The New York Times
They were the dandies of Avenue C, swanning about in cutaway suit coats, top hats and detachable starched collars. They made paintings the old-fashioned way, dressed in smocks and using rabbit skin glue primer and lead gesso on linen tacked, rather than stapled, to stretchers they found in the garbage. They backdated their work to the early 1900s, or before.

10 Business Lessons from the Beatles
Money & Markets
Financial commenter Joshua M. Brown writes: "Given how many thousands of words about finance-related topics I read each day in my role as wealth manager and Certified Financial Pundit, sometimes the last thing I want to do is get myself caught up in a book about markets and money. But even when I find myself reading something totally unrelated to business, I quickly begin noticing the investing and finance-related lessons inadvertently contained within — no matter what the topic is."
John Legend's Hollywood Hills Home
Architectural Digest
What becomes a legend most? If the luminary in question happens to be nine-time Grammy Award–winning singer and songwriter John Legend, the answer is expressed most artfully in the 1960s Hollywood Hills house he shares with his fiancée, model Christine Teigen. A sophisticated update of midcentury modernism, the residence reflects the spirit of a young couple putting their own distinctive spin on gracious California living.
