Architecture and fashion are big inspirations for my design work, as well as nature. One plays off of the others. A blank canvas is just that, whether it is an outfit, a room or the outside of a building. The outfit must be finished with accessories like shoes, a handbag and jewelry. The room within a home is finished with fine furnishings of pillows, throws, lighting and drapery. Finally, a building is finished by beautiful landscape that is to scale. Great design is all in the details.

Here is what they had to say.

In our increasingly digitized world, where everything from our phones to our thermostats is "smart," it should come as no surprise that virtual reality and augmented reality are starting to play a role in the design industry. It's a logical relationship: designers have always imagined new or re-imagined existing spaces, created a drawing via analog means or digital ones, and presented that visualization to their clients.

As anyone trying to hire in today's job market knows, it's getting harder and harder to find qualified candidates. From what we're seeing in my firm, there currently is a talent shortage throughout the industry, in all positions. More troubling, it appears fewer younger people are entering the profession. That could create big problems for firms in the coming years.
A number of factors are contributing to the current shortage.

With most of our lives spent indoors, the space we occupy has a major role in our psychological behavior. Environmental psychology or Space psychology is, in fact, the interaction between people and the spaces they inhabit. Lighting, colors, configuration, scale, proportions, acoustics, and materials address the senses of the individual and generate a spectrum of feelings and practices.

More is more has been the trend in senior living for many years — more variety, more choice, more activities, more open spaces, more gathering places. That trend is poised to reverse itself in the coming decade, believe some industry experts. Developments in technology and construction will make smaller spaces more attractive to aging baby boomers looking for a place to spend their later years.
