The Interior Design Society (IDS) declares its stance against the North Carolina legislature and governor’s ratification of inequitable legislation through House Bill 2 (HB 2). As a membership association comprised of nearly 2,000 interior design and industry professionals, IDS condemns the discriminatory language and behavior evoked by HB 2.
IDS is a proud supporter of the LGBTQ community and welcomes members of all genders and sexual orientations. We value our relationship with the interior design community as a whole and find HB 2 and related laws to be detrimental to the industry at large.
"It's our hope that all members of the LGBTQ community know where we stand with HB 2 and feel welcome within our association," says Snoa Garrigan, IDS Executive Director. "Community is one of our core values and we strive to make each member feel like IDS is where he or she belongs regardless of race, religion, gender or sexual orientation."
IDS hopes its voice is heard loud and clear as a declaration against hatred and bigotry. We encourage the design community to continue overshadowing the antipathy with acceptance and advocacy for equality.
We are working on an #idsIMPACT project for Center for Animal Research and Education (CARE) in Bridgeport, TX with IDS designers Traci Connell, Traci Connell Interiors and Barbara Gilbert, Barbara Gilbert Interiors. Traci and Barbara will design two new safari suites on CARE’s property to help generate income that is much needed to provide for the animals who call CARE home. Derek Krahn, Director of Operations, or better known as Big Cat Derek, has generated awareness about CARE through his social media pages (specifically Vine, Twitter, Instagram and his YouTube webcast). This #idsIMPACT project received a special feature on his latest Web cast. Check it out!

The Orange County Register For years, the neutral look has reigned in interior design. Beige, gray, straw, light brown – the hues are as pale and cool as a Scandinavian winter. Even accent colors have stayed on the muted side. The tastefully restrained look hasn’t been dethroned yet, but recently vibrant colors are staging a comeback, at least in well-chosen accent positions.READ MORE
ELLE Decor For interior designer Tamara Magel, opening a second office in the Hamptons was a game changer. Having spent the better part of a decade outfitting some of the most prestigious residences in New York City and D.C., the transition to the country required a shift not just in her aesthetic, but her entire approach. "When I design in New York, it's all about utilizing the space and making everything multifunctional," says Magel. "It's the complete opposite with a house. It's all about expanding instead of bringing in." This was the guiding philosophy with her latest project, a family home in Scarsdale, New York. READ MORE
The Wall Street Journal This spring, nature-inspired housewares designers have turned over a new leaf and stood it on its head. Instead of incorporating flora or fauna patterns that literally reference the natural world, many have taken a more figurative tack, creating pieces that reflect such processes as erosion, charring, melting and oxidation. These haunting objects say "Mother Nature was here," rather than "There are birds flying across my dessert plate." READ MORE
