How to Be the Best Version of You
Truly happy and successful people get that way by becoming the best, most genuine version of themselves they can be. Not on the outside — on the inside. It's not about a brand, a reputation, a persona. It's about reality. Who you really are. Sounds simple … The problem is it's very hard to do, it takes a lot of work, and it can take a lifetime to figure it out. Nothing worth doing in life is ever easy. If you want to do great work, it's going to take a lot of hard work to do it. And you're going to have to break out of your comfort zone and take some chances that will scare the crap out of you.

Featured Chapter Community Event
The Interior Design Society (IDS) of Lee/Charlotte, Florida partnered with the Southwest Florida Symphony Society hosted a Designer Show House charity event titled "Celebrate the Music." This event invited guests to tour a fantastic show estate home in St. Charles Harbour. The devoted and talented team of Symphony Society Volunteers worked with the Interior Design Society to create beautiful spaces in order to entertain visitors and support culture in Southwest Florida. In 2013, Luxury Home Solutions (LHS), a trusted resource for luxury home building and remodeling, was chosen to orchestrate the event as the general contractor for renovations and coordination of all designers and remodeling efforts. Members of IDS asked LHS to participate and use a pre-selected home as a major fundraiser for the Southwest Florida Symphony. The chosen homeowners’ graciously agreed to allow their home to be used for the project. IDS designers and their contributing suppliers stepped up to donate time, talent and materials to enhance the spaces and create a beautifully inspired home with professional design and imagination.

This year, the Interior Design Society is thrilled to announce its collaboration with interior design guru, Tobi Fairley. In addition to being the keynote speaker at the IDS National Conference in Greensboro, N.C., Tobi will supplement her partnership with IDS by joining us for three more webinars which will be recorded and released following summer 2013. View Tobi's first webinar, "How to Develop Your 'Whole' Portfolio" located in our Learning Management System (LMS). This CEU webinar is available to both IDS members and non-members. We hope you enjoy and be on the lookout for more from Tobi in the coming months!

Don't Multitask: Your Brain Will Thank You
The ability to juggle work is a standard job requirement. Researchers have another name for this supposedly desirable skill, however: chronic multitasking. If this sounds more like an affliction than a resumé booster, that's because research has shown again and again that the human mind isn't meant to multitask.

The Redefined Studio
The New York Times
By his own admission, Paul Palandjian is a guy who has always been rigorously focused: Harvard-educated, a former professional tennis player and the scion of a family of real estate developers who joined the family business. His tastes were conservative, particularly in architecture. After all, he grew up outside Boston. But something happened to Palandjian, who is now 46 and a consultant in defense, security and intelligence, when he began collecting contemporary art.

11 Terrific Paint Color Matches for Wood Details
What paint colors work best with stained wood trim? I generally select neutral colors when I am painting a room with natural wood details, whether cabinets or stain-grade trim, says interior designer Charmean Neithart. Greens, grays, whites and beiges are no-brainers. Warmer colors, like orange, brown, rust and red, work too, but the deeper tones of these colors work best. Here are 11 great spaces that I think got the choice of paint colors right.

Great Rooms Need Ground Control
The Ottawa Citizen
Don’t think of your space as one humongous room with only one seating area or you'll drive yourself bananas. The best way to approach a large space is to divide it into zones, depending on how you want to use the room. Because your living room will be used for entertaining, you will want to create multiple seating areas.

20 Rooms in Bloom
ELLE Decor
No matter the weather, these spaces are blossoming year-round, thanks to floral fabrics, wall coverings, and furnishings. Hand-painted floral wallpaper by Gracie is the star of the show in Marjorie Gubelmann's Manhattan, N.Y., dining room; an ormolu-and-cut-glass chandelier hangs above the mahogany dining table, and the Venetian mirrors are from a Paris flea market.

Molding Greatness
The Wall Street Journal
The unsung heroes of traditional home interiors, wood moldings are key pieces in the jigsaw puzzle that is a complex room. Originally made from marble or plaster, they've been part of the classical-decorating toolbox since ancient times. But although everyone from the Germans to the Greeks had the know-how to wield the crowns and ogees of their day, it took the much-copied French to elevate the light-and-shadow effects of moldings to new and singular heights.
