The Danger of Positive Thinking
Positive thinking is a wonderful thing, but it can get you into deep trouble. If you're not careful, positive thinking can turn into "magical thinking" where your desire to win overwhelms your ability to perceive what's actually going on.

I'll Be Your Mirror
The New York Times
Like the playroom they credit with sparking their interest in design — a 400-square-foot room they constantly redecorated, between the ages of 3 and 9, with Legos and He-Man action figures — nothing here is costly or permanent. And almost everything involves compromise.

Featured Chapter Community Event
The Interior Design Society (IDS) of Lee/Charlotte, Florida partnered with the Southwest Florida Symphony Society hosted a Designer Show House charity event titled "Celebrate the Music." This event invited guests to tour a fantastic show estate home in St. Charles Harbour. The devoted and talented team of Symphony Society Volunteers worked with the Interior Design Society to create beautiful spaces in order to entertain visitors and support culture in Southwest Florida. In 2013, Luxury Home Solutions (LHS), a trusted resource for luxury home building and remodeling, was chosen to orchestrate the event as the general contractor for renovations and coordination of all designers and remodeling efforts. Members of IDS asked LHS to participate and use a pre-selected home as a major fundraiser for the Southwest Florida Symphony. The chosen homeowners’ graciously agreed to allow their home to be used for the project. IDS designers and their contributing suppliers stepped up to donate time, talent and materials to enhance the spaces and create a beautifully inspired home with professional design and imagination.

Don't Multitask: Your Brain Will Thank You
The ability to juggle work is a standard job requirement. Researchers have another name for this supposedly desirable skill, however: chronic multitasking. If this sounds more like an affliction than a resumé booster, that's because research has shown again and again that the human mind isn't meant to multitask.

Sailor's Delight: A Dream Home Off The Coast of Santorini
ELLE Decor
Costis Psychas was diving off the coast of Therassia, an islet in Greece's Aegean Sea, when he first spotted his future dream home. Nestled in a cove at the base of a ruddy cliff, the building had been abandoned for decades and was not much more than a pile of rubble. "I almost didn't see it at first because it was built of red volcanic stones collected from the mountain, so it blends into its environment," he says. What's more, much of the structure was under water. "Which," says this passionate sailor, "is what makes it so special."

Market Ready
The New York Times
Q. Would converting my basement into a man cave increase the resale value of my home?
A. "For more and more of my younger couples, having a man cave is definitely on their radar," said Doris Ghitelman, a sales vice president at William Raveis Real Estate in Westport, Conn. "I think it's because they’re both wage earners in the work force, and they need not only family time, but their own personal time."
