Lenny Kravitz Adds Interior Designer to His Creative Credentials

Lenny Kravitz has taken a childhood compunction to decorate his bedroom and turned it into another creative endeavor. To rocker, songwriter and actor, add designer. Kravitz created a series of chairs for Kartell based on Philippe Starck's iconic "Mademoiselle" armchair, clad, like at times the rocker himself, in python, leather or fur. And he designed black and white tiles inspired by water drops and waves for Lea Ceramiche.

See the latest flooring design and get to speak with vendor representatives about their products in a mini-trade show environment at the W. C. Carpenter Open House on Tuesday, May 8 from 4-6 p.m. The event will feature the latest designer-focused flooring from Masland/Fabric, Bentley Prince Street, Armstrong and more including the latest cork and bamboo styles.
After the open house, a CEU titled, "The Living Colors of Linoleum" will be presented by Armstrong Commercial. This course reviews the history of linoleum, its characteristics, market information, manufacturing processes, installation and maintenance issues, as well as its impact with LEED and CA 1350.

While developing ideas for new home-furnishings designs, Ralph Lauren found his biggest inspiration in something that was, in fact, quite small: a simple bowl made of hand-hewn teak. "Sometimes it takes just one thing to excite a whole new sensibility," Lauren says of the vessel's tropical hardwood. "I thought right then that we should create a line around this incredible natural resource." The result is Desert Modern, Ralph Lauren Home's latest collection of furniture and accessories, most featuring teak harvested from sustainable plantations in Indonesia.

For graphic designer Carrol Caldwell, the idea for her company started with her teetering on a ladder in 1998. A lover of typography, Caldwell was trying to paint a Yeats quote on her bathroom wall. It dawned on her that there must be an easier way. Thus she created Wall Words, the first company to sell vinyl wall lettering. Flash forward to 2012, and Caldwell's business is still going strong. She employs six people and did $550,000 in revenue last year. Her quotes and wall art are found throughout thousands of residences and businesses, including the Pentagon's commissary.
