Congratulations to IDS Member, Iris Houlihan on her Houzz Best of Remodeling win! Iris's powder room was the winner of the Design Award in Greater New York. The online platform's members, both homeowners and professionals, were enchanted by Iris Houlihan's remodeled powder room. The space, which snagged a win in the "Design" category, features dramatic damask wallpaper in bronze. The two-toned pattern with a hint of shimmer, adds texture and depth to the small space. The porcelain tiled floor, in a complementary hue, plays off the shades of bronze. The powder room is complete with a gorgeous cream pedestal sink with matching toilet and a sleek, functional mirror framed in dark wood tones. The clean white trim looks crisp and refreshing against the bold walls. Simple, yet striking, the design is flawless down to the wooden tray housing powder room essentials. Outdoor Spaces Becoming Hot Destinations for Homeowners
Chicago Tribune
Share

For many homebuyers, the quest for the perfect outdoor space is becoming every bit as important as finding the right interior space. Chalk it up to the increasing popularity of "staycations" in a struggling economy. While a pricey vacation may be out of the question, spending time close to home is one of life's simpler pleasures. Outdoor living areas are viewed as the perfect environment for entertaining, enjoying family time or unwinding at the end of the day.

Like many urban couples, Eric and Holly Montgomery fantasized about leaving Los Angeles's hard-charging life behind for the serenity and space of the country. Holly Montgomery, an artist and former fashion stylist, imagined a studio where she could paint full time. Her husband, Eric Montgomery, a biochemist who cofounded the OPI nail polish brand, envisioned a large home office and laboratory where he could work on his inventions. They would have lots of dogs, take hikes in the woods, and ride horses, as Holly had when growing up in England. "We were too tired to go to any more Oscar parties," she says. "We wanted some peace and quiet." Determined to make the dream a reality, they spent a year driving up and down the East Coast.

The Sheer Appeal of Unlined Curtains
Architectural Digest
Share

It's not unusual to spy long sheer curtains that are unembellished and mostly intended to disappear. Like a shy but welcome dinner guest, they play a subdued role on the sidelines, diffusing both sunlight and the views of prying eyes. But lately frothier, more animated styles of unlined curtains seem to be turning up in a growing number of interiors.
