5 of the Best Young Designers
The Wall Street Journal
Design is a bit like Hollywood. Everyone knows the stars by their first names; the rest continue to work in semi-obscurity. "It's extremely hard for anyone new to break into the industry," says Italian designer and architect Rodolfo Dordoni, famous for his best-selling Lumiere light for Foscarini, which is sold world-wide.

Design Inspiration from Painter Frida Kahlo's Home
The Wall Street Journal
Frida Kahlo's father built La Casa Azul (the Blue House) in 1904 in Coyoacán — then a small village but since subsumed by Mexico City's sprawl. It's a blocky two-story structure enclosing a central courtyard in the colonial style. Kahlo was born there in 1907, moved out when she married fellow artist Diego Rivera in 1929, returned with him in 1940, and stayed until her death 14 years later.

Why Interior Design Prospects 'Shop' or Drop You
If your prospects are "shopping" you, they're not shafting you. They're doing you a favor. Most design professionals cringe at the thought of providing design ideas to prospects, only to have them take their business elsewhere.

So read on to know how to get your website in front of as many relevant visitors as possible, so it can help you grow your business.

Reclassify your independent contractors to employees and save
FOX Business
Having to add to payroll can be a momentous step for budding small businesses, but the tax implications can be burdensome. By hiring employees, a small business owner is subject to payroll processing fees, extra paperwork with quarterly and annual filings, payment of payroll tax deposits, as well as the added cost of matching Social Security, Medicare and funding the federal unemployment fund (FUTA) as well as the state unemployment fund.

Michael S. Smith Brings Art Deco Flair to a Waterfront Home
Architectural Digest
January 2009, at one of the many glamorous Washington parties celebrating President Barack Obama's inauguration, a woman from Chicago was introduced to Michael S. Smith. She told the designer, who had been tapped to make over the Obamas’ family quarters at the White House and would go on to update the Oval Office, that she had a "cupcake" of a project for him: sprucing up a former boathouse at her family's Wisconsin estate on Geneva Lake. A vacation destination dating from the time of the Civil War, the lake and the nearby town of Lake Geneva have enticed baronial Chicagoans ever since the steel, lumber, and cattle industries minted major fortunes in the city.
