IDS National Conference update

We have made the difficult decision to postpone our 2020 IDS National Conference due to COVID-19 concerns. This decision is one that our Executive Committee, National Staff and Conference Committee made while taking into consideration many factors. A wide variety of challenges make this conference unattainable in 2020, including restrictions on large gatherings, travel concerns and the overall economic climate.
Our plan is to still produce this conference sometime in 2021. Once we have a date in place, we will make the announcement. Everyone who is currently registered for the 2020 National Conference will receive a refund of their registration price. Refunds began issuing May 19, 2020. Hotel reservations may be cancelled directly with the Westin River North.
A highlight of the conference is our awards gala, recognizing the winners of our annual Designer of the Year awards program. Our team is working on creative ways to honor 2020 award recipients and we will get more information to you as soon as possible.
We'd like to thank our conference partners, speakers and hosts for their flexibility through this process. We are looking forward to a supreme conference in 2021 where we can be confident of a safe and healthy environment for all of our attendees!

May Member Spotlight: Wendy Glaister
When did you realize that you wanted to become an interior designer?
My grandmother encouraged me to be a designer. My son was in first grade, and she could see I was having a hard time figuring out what to do with my life. She asked me to call a lady that had been asking me for help with her home. She said she'd love to hear how it went the next day when I came to see her. Smart cookie ... she put a time frame on her expectation. So, I called the lady because I didn't want to disappoint my grandma, and I have been working ever since.

The eye has to travel
"The Eye Has to Travel"
This quote by Diana Vreeland has always been the inspiration for Decor Tours. Our first Decor Tour was launched nearly a decade ago, bringing a group of U.S. designers to Maison&Objet. In the meantime, we've branched out into other cities and other design adventures, always focused on introducing our guests to the wonderful resources, behind-the-scenes insight, and in-depth knowledge that make these journeys not only engaging and exciting, but also a worthwhile investment in a design business.

Why this Maryland designer goes green — whether or not clients ask her to
Business of Home
The 50 States Project is a year-long series of candid conversations with interior designers we admire, state by state. We spoke with Laura Hodges, founder of her Catonsville, Maryland–based design studio and retail shop, about how going into business with her husband changed her (work and home) life, the challenges of sustainable sourcing, and why she goes green whether or not clients ask her to.

A high-rise apartment that brings the greenery indoors
Architetural Digest
There are many perks to living alongside Central Park — most notably the views. When the homeowner of this newly renovated Manhattan apartment turned to interior designer Tina Ramchandani, the two women immediately clicked. "I was really lucky," explains Tina. "This client was super clear on her overall aesthetic." The main source of inspiration for that vision was the neighboring park and the desire to bring the greenery indoors.
