6 Unique Ways to Be Successful and Happy
Inc.
Here's the thing. Never before have there been so many people spending so much time searching for the secrets to a successful career and a happy life. Which is really a shame because they're not going to find either, at least not that way. There are lots of reasons why that is, but the most glaringly obvious one is that nobody ever got anywhere by doing what everyone else is doing.

Color Trends 2013: Seeing Red
Living Impressive
Energy, passion, growth and fertility, no other color evokes so many emotions as RED. Many people avoid red altogether when it comes to home décor; however red is represented culturally as a color of happiness and good luck. There are many shades of red from faded rose to deep burgundy, combining it other colors such as blues and greens will neutralize and add a sense of warmth to the room.

A Soaring Shelter Island Beach House
Architectural Digest
Andrew Cogan got his first look at how houses are built at around age ten, when his family made expeditions to East Hampton, New York, to follow the construction of their modernist retreat. Conceived by the legendary architect Charles Gwathmey, it set a high bar for the young Cogan’s design standards. He loved that house — all the more so after he discovered an unintended benefit of its interior ramps: They were perfect for roller-skating. Cogan's passion for design only deepened, and today he is the CEO of Knoll, the storied modern-furnishings company.
How to Give (and Receive) Positive Criticism
Inc.
There is nothing pleasant about criticism. Even the best intentioned critique still stings. People like to be right, correct, and accomplished, and when they're not, it hurts to hear the truth, no matter how nice your critic tries to be. Still, those who strive to improve, value direct feedback no matter how painful. And as long as the critic is not being malicious, he or she can actually build a higher level of trust by providing constructive criticism carefully and empathetically.
Trend Alert: Oversized Lighting
2Modern Blog
Technology notwithstanding, the truth is that we’ve been seeing a trend towards larger and larger, ever more theatrical suspension lighting for some time now, a noticeable exaggeration in scale which keeps presenting us with startling Pop Art-like interior vignettes. What it means in the long run is unclear, but for now, far from playing a supporting role to sofas and tables, lighting is being given an increasingly outsized role on the home decor stage — and, more than occasionally, the star-making lead.
Twist Up a Room's Look With Tie-Dye
Houzz
Just so we're clear, the hippies did not invent tie-dye. Yes, they may have perfected the psychedelic variety and forever linked the technique to the Summer of Love, but tie-dyeing is actually an ancient method used all over the world. Japanese shibori has been around since the eighth century. Tie-dyeing is also found in Peru, India, Africa and Indonesia. Tie-dying can produce subtle rippling patterns. It's the perfect wabi-sabi art, because it can never be controlled 100 percent. Every piece of tie-dye is unique.
3 Ways to Spot a Liar
Inc.
It would be nice if every job candidate, negotiating partner, and potential supplier told the truth. But here in the real world, being in business means separating spin from reality. Police shows and folk wisdom offer suggestions, but these commonly held "tells" aren't useful for spotting deception. For starters, liars aren't always so fidgety. But just because Hollywood gets it wrong doesn't mean that you should.
The Importance of Building An Emergency Fund For Your Business
Under 30 CEO
you more than likely have an emergency fund for your household, but do you have one for your small business? While you may have more business assets than personal assets, very little of those assets are liquid. Having a liquid emergency fund to rely on when catastrophic event occurs that you could have never predicted is imperative if you want to survive through the aftermath. Emergencies happen and even after an emergency happens, the bills must be paid.

The Green Room
Ciao Interiors
Green is a calming color, perfect for any room in the home. It is the color of health, renewal, and rebirth. Depending on the hue, you can set it against white, black, or brown and have a crisp, contrasting look. Whether you choose a moss green or a bright spring green, green is a healing color that will leave you peacefully invigorated and refreshed.
Kitchen Confidential: 9 Spaces for Casual Dining
ELLE Decor
A pair of benches purchased from the estate of Bill Blass provides communal seating in the kitchen of a Southampton, New York, house decorated by Steven Gambrel. The 19th-century oak table is Belgian, and the pendant lights are from John Derian Co.; French concrete floor tiles add a graphic punch.
Change The World And Get to Bed By 10
Harvard Business Review
Let's say you believed deeply in the importance of sleep health, and you wanted to start a movement to change people's attitudes and behavior. Maybe, like Arianna Huffington, it's a personal crisis that convinces you. Or maybe it's a key piece of research or two that opens your eyes, as it were, to the dangers of too little sleep.
Think National, Design Local
Interiors & Sources
Twenty-four hours. Six designers. One big idea. That, in a nutshell, is what Design Local is all about. It's also about finding inspiration in your own backyard. And, of course, it's about creating beautiful carpet.
