5 Questions That Will Close the Sale (Without Pressuring Customers)
Good salespeople know that asking questions is the most effective way to learn about the needs of your customers. But you've got to ask the right questions. Otherwise, you risk scaring prospective customers out the door — or simply annoying them so much that they decide to buy elsewhere.

Home Layout and Use of Interior and Exterior Space Focus of AIA Survey
As improvements continue to be seen in the residential market, the size of homes has grown in response. This is the case for high-end and custom homes as well as additions to existing homes. Preferences for accessible space, like open-space layouts and single-floor designs, have also continued to rise, according to findings from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Home Design Trends Survey for the first quarter of 2013.

Easy Ways to Keep Visitors on Your Website Longer
Multimedia files tend to hold viewers' attention for longer. Your visitors might not sit down and read 2,000 word articles, but they may listen to all of the same content in a single visit if it's conveyed via video or audio. Try experimenting with everything from embedded video clips to slideshow presentations to podcasts to image galleries.

5 Tips to Wake Up Faster and More Happily
Choose a happy wall color. Ever try to shake off the cobwebs in a dark purple or mossy-green bedroom? Pick a color that reflects light and seems to glow from within. Sunny yellow is the obvious choice, but think butter, not taxicab — you don't want to be shocked awake when the sun slips over the horizon.

Designers Are Reissuing Iconic Furniture Pieces to Suit Modern Tastes
The Wall Street Journal
"They are everything that designers would like to do now but can't," says filmmaker Amanda Eliasch about her prized Le Corbusier, Arne Jacobsen and Kartell reissues that she keeps in her homes in London and Los Angeles. "What do you do following on from these amazing pieces of furniture?" Some of the most iconic Modernist and midcentury modern designs, such as Corbusier's LC2 chair, Arne Jacobsen's Egg chair and the Eames Aluminum Group, have been so popular they never went out of production. But others from those eras are only now being rediscovered.

Older Home Restoration Treasures
By Michelle Garner
In today's market, more people are buying and restoring older homes than purchasing new homes. With many homes in foreclosure, a home can be purchased for well below tax value. Many find the cost to repair or renovate an older home to be minimal when compared to the value once restoration is complete. One of the best parts of renovating an older home is piecing together its history from the decorating styles and colors of paints and wallcoverings found throughout.

Weaving a Spell: Rattan and Wicker
ELLE Decor
Designer Kerry Joyce added an elegant sensibility to the veranda of an Irish Georgian–style mansion in Beverly Hills with a façade of stacked hand-cut stone, stately columns, and custom-made wicker furniture; English oak trees and boxwood help maintain a sense of privacy without sacrificing views of Los Angeles.

Le Corbusier's 1-Room Wonder
The Wall Street Journal
Visionary architect Charles-Èdouard Jeanneret-Gris, better known as Le Corbusier, wrote about the ideal house as a "machine for living." Although the phrase conjures some sterile high-Modernist folly, his residential interiors were machinelike only in their attention to utility — courtesy of elements like open floor plans and built-in furniture — and characterized by human-scale proportions and a strong indoor/outdoor connection.

Home Fragrance
The New York Times
As partners in a design firm called Grade, Edward Yedid and Thomas Hickey are unlikely authorities on home fragrance. Nevertheless, "scent is, surprisingly, one part of the different things we do," said Hickey, 44, the architect who founded the firm in 2001. "We've customized scent, not only by using oils or candles, but also in choosing materials," he said. "Cedar houses have a certain smell. Even shingle-style houses have specific smells."
