7 Diet Tips for Your Company
American Express OPEN Forum    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
It's often much easier to describe what lean isn't than what it is. Lean isn't about being spartan, skinny or stingy. It isn't about slash-and-burn cost cutting, reducing headcount or beating up suppliers to get the lowest price. It isn't relevant only to manufacturing operations — every process in your company can benefit from a lean approach. More

Set Sail Inside
The Wall Street Journal    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Visiting a nautically decorated house used to mean enduring wall-mounted marlins and knotty pine everything. Today it can include basking in a laid-back blue-and-white-hued setting or examining a few beachcombing finds under cloches — without drowning in tropes. A new wave of interior designers is seeking inspiration from the sea while avoiding kitsch in the process. Whether the setting is mod California bungalow or weather-beaten beach house, these talents incorporate marine influences with a sparing eye. More

As you are aware, you are now required to maintain .8 CEU's every two years. The deadline of Dec. 31 is fast approaching! This is a friendly reminder to submit your credits to the IDS/CQRID office to maintain your professional status.

The purpose of requiring CEU's is two-fold:

  1. CQRID is in the process of applying for full accreditation of the CQRID exam so that our professionals in states that have passed legislation may also be recognized for their professional efforts through CQRID and
  2. As required by all professional certification exams, it is required by our certifying body, (CCE), that professionals must stay abreast of current trends and changes in the industry in order to maintain their professional certification.
The following instructions clearly outline the process and requirements for filing your CEU credits through CQRID:
  • After each CEU approved program, you will receive a certificate signed and dated by the course instructor.
  • Send a copy of the certificate with a CEU Filing Form for each CEU, and a CEU payment form along with a $10.00 filing fee per CEU submitted to: CQRID, 164 S. Main Street, 4th Floor, High Point, NC 27260. Be sure to keep the original of that certificate for your files. Links for both documents are provided below for your convenience.
  • If you registered for a CEU approved program offered directly through IDS (market seminars offered by IDS, regional IDS conferences, national IDS conferences, or on-line CEU programs registered through IDS), it is not necessary to submit those credits; they are automatically recorded for you and do not require the $10.00 filing fee.
  • All other CEU approved programs must be turned in with the CEU Filing Form and the filing fee in order to receive credit.
  • You cannot receive double credits for participating in the same program more than one time.
  • CQRID honors all CEU approved credits. Therefore, those who are required to maintain certification through other organizations and/or state requirements can get credit in both arenas for each CEU approved course attended.
Your CQRID certification is important! You have successfully achieved the highest goal of professionalism in residential interior design by passing the CQRID exam; therefore it is of utmost importance that you maintain your professional status by maintaining the required number of CEU credits. We will forward another reminder prior to the end of the year. Please direct all questions and inquiries to the IDS office at 336-884-4437, ext. 222.

How to Use Robots in Interior Design
SmartPlanet    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
We've seen how architects hope to use robots to fabricate buildings, but are there other applications for the machines in design? In Wired Design, Joseph Flaherty highlights two examples of robots in the world of interior design. Meanwhile, at Cornell University, a professor is teaching robots how to organize rooms. More

Lone Star Statement
Elle Decor    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
The tiny desert town of Marfa, Texas, became an unlikely oasis of spare, modular minimalism after sculptor Donald Judd moved there in the 1970s. The artists, writers, and design aficionados who gravitate to Marfa today — drawn by its paradoxical collision of remote solitude and vibrant cultural energy — tend to emulate the boxy, geometric look of Judd's work in their homes. But when San Francisco residents Sam Hamilton and Jen Chaiken decided to buy a second home in Marfa after holding their destination wedding nearby, they knew they wanted a more lived-in, layered aesthetic. Arie and Coco Kopelman's Renovated Nantucket Home
Architectural Digest    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Mention the phrase "decorating with antiques," and a significant number of people are likely to think of stiff, old-fashioned rooms with brown furniture. Arie L. Kopelman, former president of Chanel Inc., and his wife, Coco—two halves of an avid collecting team—would beg to differ. "Rooms can have a clean, fresh, modern sensibility but still have traditional elements that let your mind wander through history," says Kopelman, who also happens, not so coincidentally, to serve as the chairman of the Winter Antiques Show, an august annual New York City event that benefits the educational programs of East Side House Settlement. "Where you live," he continues, "doesn't have to look like Grandma's house." More

Color Consultant: The Doctor Is In
New York Magazine    Share    Share on FacebookTwitterShare on LinkedinE-mail article
Eve Ashcraft knows her colors. The owner of Eve Ashcraft Studio in New York City dishes about paint chips and color samples and whether New Yorkers are adventurous with color. "There was a period when people went for tasteful, tranquil 'nothing' colors, like greige and lots of white. Now, people are saying, 'Let's get something going on in here. Let's make it interesting.' If I suggest a pink ceiling, they'll say, 'Yes! That's cool.' Ten years ago, people weren't really game for that," she said. More
