National Interior Design Society Selects New Executive Director
Jenny Cano to Lead National IDS Boldly into Exciting New Phase
The National Interior Design Society (IDS) is pleased to announce its new Executive Director Jenny Rebecca Cano. Cano was selected to lead IDS during this pivotal and exciting time as the organization is poised for major rebranding efforts, membership surges, and a bold new vision.
"It is an honor to join the Interior Design Society. This is an amazing opportunity to work with an organization that not only has a strong impact on the interior design industry, but also our community at large. I am looking forward to the important work ahead," says Cano.
National IDS President of the Board of Directors Jan Cregier says, "We are ecstatic to work with Jenny due to her membership and marketing experience, enthusiasm and overall vision to help transport IDS to the next level and beyond."

On behalf of the National IDS office and board of directors, it is with great sadness to let you know the passing of Dot Greenlee. Dot was the past President of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter and worked tirelessly with Dwell with Dignity and Jonathan's place, part of their chapter charity projects. Under her leadership, the Dallas chapter won their first chapter of the year award. Dot had her own business, Dorothy Greenlee Designs, in Dallas, Texas, and was recently named IDS National Designer of the Year in the Dining Room category in April. Our sincere condolences to her family, friends, clients and fellow IDS members. Besides Dot's work ethic, she will be missed for her genuine personality and friendly smile. Dot, you will be greatly missed.
Jan Cregier

“I just love it!” is a common expression that reveals a lot about the psychology of selling. Something about a product or offering sparks an emotional reaction in us that influences our buying decision. By connecting with that emotion you can tell which products or services a client is likely to buy and provide them with the information they need to feel assured they are making the right purchase. We like to think we are conscientious when making a purchase, weighing the pros and cons to arrive at a sound decision. Once we settle on our choice, we feel a sense of satisfaction.

While this new-construction home in Lake Forest, Illinois, was just recently built, it has been 20-plus years in the making. The owners bought the one-acre site in the early 1990s with the goal of building right away, explains Christopher Miroslaw of Miro Kitchen Design in Chicago. "Then life got in the way," he says. "He got busy with work, they had kids, etc. Building a new home kept getting pushed back."

Almost no other country will be dominating headlines in these upcoming months more than Brazil. Ground zero for the increasingly worrisome Zika virus, looming concern over construction delays and preparedness for this summer's Olympic Games, and an unfortunate turn from South America's most promising economy to a quickly diminishing one plagued by urban crime, political unrest, bribery scandals and the recent impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff have led to an implausibly negative train wreck of events.

Assembling talent is a daily preoccupation for Brad Grey, chairman and CEO of Paramount Pictures. This may have given him a leg up while building a house for himself and his family on the west side of Los Angeles. "We’d been looking for the right combination of designers," says Grey, speaking by phone from his car on the way to his office. He and his wife, Cassandra, hired architect Howard Backen, of Backen, Gillam & Kroeger in Northern California, to oversee the master plan of the low-slung house. The interior architecture and design would fall to someone else. "It’s analogous to putting a movie or television show together with great artists — you hope they get along. Having built a number of homes, I can say that this one is coming out very much as I'd hoped."

Florals are back in home decor but they're less cottage twee and more architectural in design, says Sarah Edmonds, Creative Director at Vancouver design studio Banquet Atelier. "We have two new textile prints," she says, "One is house plants and the other is palm leaves and they're a little more architectural in terms of floral design. We're not going pretty, they're a little bit more structured, which really suits the aesthetic of what we do. There's strong lines and going with botanicals kind of gives a softness to that."
