The National Interior Design Society (IDS) is pleased to announce its new Executive Director Jenny Rebecca Cano. Cano was selected to lead IDS during this pivotal and exciting time as the organization is poised for major rebranding efforts, membership surges, and a bold new vision.
"It is an honor to join the Interior Design Society. This is an amazing opportunity to work with an organization that not only has a strong impact on the interior design industry, but also our community at large. I am looking forward to the important work ahead," says Cano.
National IDS President of the Board of Directors Jan Cregier says, "We are ecstatic to work with Jenny due to her membership and marketing experience, enthusiasm and overall vision to help transport IDS to the next level and beyond."

On behalf of the National IDS office and board of directors, it is with great sadness to let you know the passing of Dot Greenlee. Dot was the past President of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter and worked tirelessly with Dwell with Dignity and Jonathan's place, part of their chapter charity projects. Under her leadership, the Dallas chapter won their first chapter of the year award. Dot had her own business, Dorothy Greenlee Designs, in Dallas, Texas, and was recently named IDS National Designer of the Year in the Dining Room category in April. Our sincere condolences to her family, friends, clients and fellow IDS members. Besides Dot's work ethic, she will be missed for her genuine personality and friendly smile. Dot, you will be greatly missed.
Jan Cregier

When it comes to home decorating, preparing for the arrival of a baby is one of the most exciting times to create a dream house for you and your growing family. The truth is, outfitting your home with the safety of your child in mind should be top priority, which often means choosing hardier elements built to withstand the handiwork of tumultuous toddlers. "Once you start thinking about decorating, you begin to realize that there are a lot of limitations and restrictions that, as a responsible parent, you should follow for the safety of your child," says author and design blogger Emily Henderson, who has maintained top-level interiors in her own home with two children under the age of three. Sturdy furniture, resilient fabrics, and smart storage solutions are the key to creating a safe space without compromising your design integrity. Read her tips and be on your way to a kid-friendly home that will last far beyond the toddler years.

The idea that our built environments have unseen obstacles is why many who study human behavior and ergonomics believe that, as our population continues to grow and ultimately age, we need to view every space people use as a place where easy accessibility is necessary. This will become more evident in the next few decades, when we will see a noticeable increase in people who are over the age of 50.

We're more than halfway through 2016, which means one thing: It's already time to discuss which home decor trends will define next year. On the color front, sophisticated hues are poised to take center stage, according to Behr who, just released their predictions for colors to keep an eye on in 2017. The paint company has divided its selection into three palettes — Confident, Composed, and Comfortable — and if they are any indication, we'll be drawing decor inspiration from our personalities in the year ahead.
