August Member Spotlight: Lisa Pollock
When did you realize that you wanted to become an interior designer?
I have always embraced creativity and been drawn to art in one form or another. Around the age of 10, I remember feeling completely uninspired over the lavender shade of wall to wall carpet in my bedroom. I rearranged the furniture and begged my mother to install a more neutral colored rug, or even better, refinish the wood floors beneath. I guess you can say that's when my focus on interiors really started.

Introducing the Shayla Copas Collection with Chelsea House
Shayla Copas writes: It sounds a bit cliche, but this collection with Chelsea House really is a dream come true. During the process, I strove for the dreamy part to be apparent in the designs, too. I wanted a touch of whimsy throughout the collection, and I hope all the bee accents really evoke that feeling. This might be surprising, but I love insects and reptiles, so it felt totally natural for me to incorporate bees in the collection.

How performance fabric took over the world
Business of Home
Funny to think of it now, but there was a time not so long ago when performance fabrics (then known as "outdoor" fabrics) were used exclusively for things like storefront awnings, benches on yachts and the retractable hoods of convertible cars. It was during precisely this time that Ann Sutherland was plying her trade as an interior designer in Oklahoma City.

Are too many ecolabels hindering sustainable product specification?
Interiors + Sources
With apologies to Tears for Fears: everybody wants to save the world. To the Rolling Stones: you can't always get what you want; but if you try sometimes, you just might find ... well, you probably know the rest. Perhaps this scenario sounds familiar — you always try to choose sustainable materials, furniture and systems. Your clients encourage this, because they want to be able to brand their projects as sustainable, healthy spaces.

Inside an interior designer's shoppable studio
5280
When Susan Weiss travels across Europe each year in search of the luxurious home goods, timeworn antiques and architectural elements (think: patinaed doors, beams, even pretty limestone gravel) she sells to her clientele of homeowners and design pros, she rarely braves the crowds in the bustling shopping districts.

7 most common living room mistakes
Millionacres
This is one of the most-searched follow-up questions to "Do I need an interior designer?" While the correlation is obvious, the mistakes often are not ... until they're made and you have to live with them. While residential homeowners have plenty of time to work through their mistakes, people who are investing in residential real estate usually want to skip right to the most effective tactics, whether that's for staging homes, furnishing vacation rentals or prepping townhomes to go on the market.
