National Interior Design Society Selects New Executive Director
Jenny Cano to Lead National IDS Boldly into Exciting New Phase
The National Interior Design Society (IDS) is pleased to announce its new Executive Director Jenny Rebecca Cano. Cano was selected to lead IDS during this pivotal and exciting time as the organization is poised for major rebranding efforts, membership surges, and a bold new vision.
"It is an honor to join the Interior Design Society. This is an amazing opportunity to work with an organization that not only has a strong impact on the interior design industry, but also our community at large. I am looking forward to the important work ahead," says Cano.
National IDS President of the Board of Directors Jan Cregier says, "We are ecstatic to work with Jenny due to her membership and marketing experience, enthusiasm and overall vision to help transport IDS to the next level and beyond."

On behalf of the National IDS office and board of directors, it is with great sadness to let you know the passing of Dot Greenlee. Dot was the past President of the Dallas/Fort Worth Chapter and worked tirelessly with Dwell with Dignity and Jonathan's place, part of their chapter charity projects. Under her leadership, the Dallas chapter won their first chapter of the year award. Dot had her own business, Dorothy Greenlee Designs, in Dallas, Texas, and was recently named IDS National Designer of the Year in the Dining Room category in April. Our sincere condolences to her family, friends, clients and fellow IDS members. Besides Dot's work ethic, she will be missed for her genuine personality and friendly smile. Dot, you will be greatly missed.
Jan Cregier

Online shopping for home decor is so 2015. We much prefer the cozy environs of these concept shops across the U.S., which are designed to look like residences; one step inside and you'll instantly feel at home. The highly curated spaces — some with notable design insiders at the helm — allow decorating connoisseurs to experience a series of roomlike vignettes, helping them to get a grasp on exactly how a product can be styled in their own homes. From whimsical and modern to luxurious and traditional, there's a style everyone might be happy to call home. So stay awhile and leave with your favorite items — just don’t turn down the bedding.

Meredith Grey may feel right at home inside the operating room, but Ellen Pompeo much prefers the interiors of her Los Feliz, California abode. "I’m a straight-up homebody. It's hard to get me out of the house once the sun goes down,” Pompeo, 46, tells Good Housekeeping in their September issue. Although she teamed up with friend and interior decorating guru Martyn Lawrence Bullard to help pull the house together, the Grey’s Anatomy star still had a hand in the overall design decisions.

You’ve come up with the perfect name for a new business or product. Amazingly the name is still available and you’re eager to stake your claim on it now, instead of waiting six months until you’re actually in business. You can purchase the domain name now, but what about federal trademark protection? The United States Patent and Trademark Office offers an “intent to use” trademark application. This is a way to file a trademark application before you actually put the mark in commerce.

Home Designing
The sky is the limit when tall ceilings meet compact floor plans. The homes featured in this post sacrificed some of their impressive height for the sake of gaining more usable square footage - and the results are pretty fun to admire. Many of these interiors take the traditional approach by placing a bedroom in the lofted area, but others break the mold by using their newfound second floor for other purposes like a home office or library.
