IDS is excited to announce another partnership with the Accessories Resource Team for our 2018 conference in Savannah, GA. Mark your calendars for April 30th - May 2nd, 2018.
Each year in Collier County there are over 2,500 reports of child maltreatment. As a
result, over 1,000 children are currently homeless, of which 122 have no family or
support system on which they can rely. These youth need help that can provide them
protection and empowerment.Youth Haven in Naples, found at www.youthhavenswfl.org, provides for those needs by
offering four programs: The Child and Family Counseling Center, The Emergency
Shelter, Family Support and Prevention Services, and The Homeless and Runaway Youth
Program. They have had a major impact on the community through these outreach
programs, but they can’t do everything themselves.
The Interior Design Society (IDS) of Naples has been given the wonderful opportunity to
partner with Youth Haven in a collaborative renovation project of the organization’s
Telford Building. This is where the children participate in the previously mentioned
programs, access information through books or computers, have recreational activities,
perform art projects, and have meals. The Telford Building also houses the
administrative offices where the daily operations take place. So what does this have to do with you and your company?

Molloy Students Overhaul Chairs for 'Chairity'
Students from the IDS Molloy Student Chapter have volunteered their services
in the design of the dining room at the Edna Moran Family Shelter at the INN.
The Mary Brennan INN of Long Island is a non-profit organization that provides
food, shelter and long-term housing as well as support services to people who
seek help and has a dedicated staff and volunteers.
In order to raise money, the students had a "Chairity" fundraiser May 10. They took discarded chairs, re-purposed them and auctioned them off at the event. There were 20 chairs, and there were also baskets donated for the raffle. It was a very successful event, raising $6800.

The Interior Design Society has joined The Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC), effective Jan. 1. Click here to learn more.
Information on CEU change for IDS Associate members
As of January 1, 2017, IDS Associate members must earn a minimum of 0.4 (4 hours) approved continuing education units (CEU) each year. Please make note of the following helpful information regarding CEUs and CEU filing to maintain your Associatel level membership in IDS.
IDS bylaws and policies require Professional and Associate members to meet the continuing education requirement. The IDS continuing education requirement is separate from any mandated continuing education requirement in your local jurisdiction. Check with your state regulatory board for requirements.
Filing CEUs
IDS members must utilize the Interior Design Continuing Education Council (IDCEC) registry to file CEUs. Each IDS member must create a free account through IDCEC. Once you have created your IDCEC account, you will receive a unique IDCEC number to login into the IDCEC website (your IDCEC number is different than your IDS member number). The IDCEC user registry allows you to upload and track your continuing education activity as well as store a record for you under your account. Check your IDCEC account regularly to ensure your records are up-to-date. At the end of each CEU cycle, you will be required to submit your IDCEC report to the IDS National office to verify that you have fulfilled your CEU requirement.
Special Circumstances
IDS may grant an adjustment to the requirement for individuals experiencing poor health, certified by a physician; a specific physical or mental disability, certified by an appropriate health care professional; extended duty with the armed forces; or for extreme hardship, which, in the board’s judgment, makes it impossible for the member to comply. Requests for an adjustment to the continuing education requirement must be made at least two months (by October 30) prior to the end of the current reporting period.
Noncompliance
At the end of a reporting period, members who have failed to meet the CEU requirements will be subject to a non-compliance fee ($10 per CEU). Any member who fails to comply with the continuing education requirement, including payment of the noncompliance fee, may be subject to devaluation of Professional membership.

Benefiting from low-rate mortgages and rising home values, more Americans who traditionally would be in the market to buy up are choosing to remain in their current homes. Many are taking advantage of the increase in equity to take out home loans to pay for upgrades and repairs. That, in turn — as remodelers already know — is creating more business for the remodeling industry. According to recent reports, the pace of activity heated up in the second quarter.

What was straight now curves. What was hard is now soft. There is a big shift happening in residential interiors right now — to a look that is comfortable, livable and most important, accessible. Are we seeing the death of modern design, something many regarded as cold and suitable only for kid-free minimalists? Probably not, but this trend is one that warms up the modern look.

What's the best way for companies to increase sales to leading interior designers? Help them help themselves. Manufacturers, showrooms, local retailers, independent sales reps and others looking to boost their business with designers should help them build their businesses. They should partner with them, providing guidance on how the designers can differentiate themselves, promote their expertise and build their database.

It’s no surprise that technology is literally changing everything around us, but one industry that hasn’t had as much advancement over the years comes in the form of interior design. It’s traditionally costly, timely, and requires a designer to come out and basically take care of everything unless you’re one of those handy types. While that may always be a popular method, regardless of the tech being introduced, it doesn’t mean that there aren’t movers and shakers that are disrupting our typical outlook of the field to make it quicker and easier, while still keeping most of the power in the homeowner’s hands.

Big, expensive crystal home-decor pieces aren't for everyone, or even most people. But for the few who are on the market for items such as crystal vases and bowls, shopping may have gotten a bit easier. Mastercard and Swarovski said Monday they've teamed up to create a new virtual-reality shopping app for browsing through a virtual home filled with crystal objects designed by architect Zaha Hadid, designer Tomás Alonso and others.
