"My husband and I bought our first townhouse in Falls Church, Virginia, right when we turned 24, and it was a DUMP. It was when the real estate market was super hot, and it was almost impossible to find a home without being in competition with other buyers and multiple offers. I walked through the place thinking of all of the things we could update and change to make it our own. When we got outside, I turned to my husband and said, 'Nobody's going to want this house — let's buy it!'"

This is a timely topic to visit, not only with regard to friends and family, but also for those of us in the industry who give gifts to clients. For some, gift-giving is an intuitive skill. The Day
When choosing furniture, artwork and other items to personalize your home, it can be easy to overlook the staircase. It's a functional area of the home, often with minimal space on the wall and landings, and many homeowners may opt to simply leave the area blank.
Although the stairs and the area surrounding them can often present a challenge for interior design, you can easily add personal touches to give them some more life.

There's no doubt about it, the Danish know good design. With a roll call of impressive designers under its belt, the country has cemented itself as the birthplace of modern furniture. Bringing us everything from the famous Egg to the everyday Wishbone chair, the Danes will go down in history as masters of Mid-Century design. While Danish design has long been associated with a minimalistic and neutral palette, that's all changed in recent years.

During a recent panel at the Association for Contract Textiles' annual Interact Conference on the leading disrupters affecting the interiors industry, attendees heard firsthand from esteemed designers the behind-the-scenes tidbits they wish distributor and manufacturer reps knew. While the topics covered opinions on product and process innovation, perhaps nothing enlightened the audience more than when the conversation shifted to the ways in which dealers and manufacturers could best support designers.

The term "biophilia," an affinity for the living world, was coined back in the 1980s by American biologist and author E.O. Wilson. We have an instinctive drive to connect with nature, he said, and the more we connect, the happier we are. That's why a walk in the woods or a sit on a quiet beach can feel so good. In our homes, we might try to bring the outside in with a potted tree, some herbs on the window sill, perhaps floral wallpaper or landscape art.

Marni Jameson writes: Over the years, I have written about some arguably pretty minor topics — white paint, yard boulders and computer disposal among them. Somehow, while dwelling on all sorts of fascinating-no-point-is-too-small minutiae, I have neglected to write about a common domestic workhorse, an item most of us use. Every. Single. Day. So today, as we approach the season of gratefulness, I am giving long-overdue homage to the humble, honorable basket.

Some people use bots to cop limited-edition sneaker drops, while others spend hours building meticulous Pinterest boards of fantasy rooms. If you're dealing with the latter this holiday season, then you're in luck: Home decor enthusiasts are pretty easy to please when it comes to gifts. They like anything that can be kept on display in a living room or used to host a small gathering, from vibrant vases to marble trays.
