Kim Bailey and Lauren Bailey-Rude, of Dallas, Texas, are our December Member Spotlight! Read more about their design journey here.
Kim: I have always been a creative person and loved being domestic. I learned to sew at the age of 10 and began sewing clothes for myself as well as pillows and small items as gifts for my friends during my years in school. I began studying business in college and then got married and started a family. It was then that my creativity really blossomed because I wanted to do so much to our home but was on a tight budget.
Lauren: Growing up with a mom (Kim Bailey) who has always had a touch of design in our home, I have always had an interest in interior design. I would help her on my days off and nights/weekends through high school and college which turned into a full-time position about 4 years ago.

The reign of Millennial Pink–that literally and figuratively cool hue whose blue undertones flattered no one–seems to be coming to an end at last. In its place? We have Living Coral. It’s Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2019, following the company’s annual, wide-ranging analysis of color trends across culture. Living Coral is comforting and energizing at the same time, a color meant to serve as a salve in a time of global uncertainty.

The good news for remodelers, according to recent forecasts, is that demand is expected to continue to grow over the next three years. The not-so-good news is that growth will be slower than it has been for the past three years. Although many remodelers remain optimistic conditions will improve in the months ahead, some already are anticipating a decline in the fourth quarter of this year. Recently released data confirms the trend reported last month that remodeling activity remained strong in the third quarter of this year.

The kitchen is the heart of the home; the gathering place for families to come together and share a meal over easy conversation. It’s no wonder most homeowners put so much time and effort into kitchen renovations. But don’t go thinking that trend forecasters are winding down as 2018 comes to a close. Quite the contrary.

Twenty years ago, Rosemarie Rossetti ran a small publishing business with her husband, Mark Leder, in the basement of their two-story home in Columbus, Ohio, and spent weekends hiking and playing sports. But her life changed on an afternoon bicycle ride in 1998, when a three-and-a-half-ton tree collapsed and crashed down on her, a devastating accident that injured her spinal cord and left her paralyzed from the waist down.

A beautiful interior-design book may seem the ideal holiday gift for a friend who knows Carrera is a Porsche and Carrara is an expensive white marble. But you’ll truly please the compulsive room-rearranger on your list if the book does more than compile gorgeous imagery and also advises on how to rearrange his or her furniture most strategically. Our selections for this year’s most giftable volumes span five aesthetics and attitudes, from bohemian Paris to neoclassical New York and, in each case, illustrate applicable advice.
