Kim: I have always been a creative person and loved being domestic. I learned to sew at the age of 10 and began sewing clothes for myself as well as pillows and small items as gifts for my friends during my years in school. I began studying business in college and then got married and started a family. It was then that my creativity really blossomed because I wanted to do so much to our home but was on a tight budget.
Lauren: Growing up with a mom (Kim Bailey) who has always had a touch of design in our home, I have always had an interest in interior design. I would help her on my days off and nights/weekends through high school and college which turned into a full-time position about 4 years ago.
Surrounding yourself and loved ones with the “merry and bright” this time of year may seem a bit overwhelming, so we’ve come up with a few tips to brighten the season and welcome your guests with warmth and good cheer.

Many interior design professionals use the holiday season to reflect on the year that was. You’re wise to focus instead on the year that can be. Use this time to plot your course and make your 2019 sales and marketing plan. Why? Because a designer without a plan is like ship without a rudder. You may have a rough idea of where you want to go, but not a clue on how to get there. You can "get there" and achieve your goals for the year ahead by keeping these seven "p"rinciples in mind.

Not only are they constantly changing, but views vary wildly: One designer says something’s in, while another says it's out. And that’s nothing to say of your opinion on the matter. But if you're seeking inspiration — or heck, maybe you just want to look at some beautiful photos and dream — we've got you covered.

The past few years have shown us our fair share of design fads, including rustic barn wood looks and giant word art pieces that tell you where to “eat” and even “sleep.” While some homeowners still adore the trends that made 2018 great, others are looking beyond industrial kitchens and all-gray color palettes to something a bit fresher. With a nod to ringing in the New Year, when the past can truly be forgotten, here are a few of the design looks we think will be popular in 2019.

The new year is around the corner, and major paint manufacturers and color forecasters have already crowned their color of 2019. Spanning the color spectrum from cool grays to warm terracottas, to blush oranges, these five color trends are expected to dominate the design and manufacturing industries in the coming year.

One of the fastest-growing areas of commercial real estate is coworking spaces. They have become increasingly popular with freelancers, entrepreneurs and self-employed professionals and paraprofessionals, whose numbers have expanded considerably post-recession, as well as with business travelers, who use them as hoteling spaces. As the number of users has grown, so has their diversity and their diverse business needs. Today’s coworking space providers are having to respond to the same types of demands for better working environments as are companies everywhere.

Today, the modern workplace continues to blend spaces and experiences that encourage new behaviors, support one’s health and wellness, and foster meaningful connections between people. Because most individuals now spend over a third of their lifetimes in professional spaces, they have higher expectations for what it means to go to work. Driven by the discovery of purpose, organizational agility has become paramount to workplace strategy and design.

There has been a lot of discussion around combining or sharing design verticals, merging how we live, work, relax, gain access to services, and interact. Interesting inventive terms include “resimmercial,” “resitality,” “healthitality,” “eduhealth.” I imagine there will be more terms evolving as trends continue to overlap in various design segments. Overall, this is the opportunity to create experiential design by not assuming that old norms, design assumptions, and previous modes of operating are relevant to today’s world. They aren’t – change is the constant.
