Fiesta Bowl hires University of Arizona president as executive director

The Fiesta Bowl has turned to University of Arizona President Robert Shelton to lead the rehabilitation of its tattered reputation. The bowl announced that it has hired the respected academic as executive director to replace the ousted John Junker. Shelton, who has held the top position at the Tucson, Ariz., university for five years, is a member of the presidential oversight committee for the Bowl Championship Series, the system that determines major college football's national champion. More

Another death at Bonnaroo draws attention to music festival safety

Heat, drugs and alcohol can be a deadly combination at large summer music festivals like the Bonnaroo Festival Music & Arts that recently wrapped up in Manchester, Tenn., where a second death was reported. Entertainment Weekly reports that a 24-year-old man died from hyperthermia, a condition that occurs when the body gets too hot and can't cool itself. Temperatures at the festival were in the 90s, and large crowds of sweaty bodies probably didn't help the situation. More

Festival storage depot idea proposed

Leeds and Grenville could become the center of a festival-storage depot for eastern Ontario under a proposal to a United Counties committee. Jan Bonhomme, executive director of the St. Lawrence War of 1812 Bicentennial Alliance, told the governance and finance committee her group hopes to establish a depot and would like the counties to take it over after the alliance disbands in 2014. More

Surveillance cams, undercover cops to monitor parade crowd

Dallas police are preparing to deal with more than 250,000 fans expected to attend the Mavericks victory parade. The department will monitor everything out of the Fusion Center and two command centers. They’ll keep a close eye on what's happening with the parade crowds. DPD will use downtown surveillance cameras and a live view from its helicopter. More
