Delray, Fla., may ask event coordinators to show economic impact

Special events in downtown Delray, Fla., will now be required to show their worth in cash. At its workshop meeting, the City Commission heard some additional recommendations on how to manage the city's special events policies, including one that would require special-event organizers to show the economic impact of their festival or fair. More

Notwithstanding the municipal commissioner's proposal suggesting cuts in budget works with civic treasury facing cash crunch, Pune, India, mayor Mohansingh Rajpal said that PMC had unlimited budget for cultural festivals and events like the Queen's Baton Relay for the Commonwealth Games. The Queen's Baton Relay for the CWG will reach Pune on Sept. 9 and the PMC has decided a grand welcome. More

Jonathan Mills has urged politicians and arts funding organizations to avoid reducing the arts to a "soundbite" or "fast food" as they search for ways to cut public spending. The director of Edinburgh's international festival said that the scale and diversity of the U.K. city's festivals had to be protected against short-term cuts in subsidy. More

Special Events' '50 Top' list shows business stabilizing for big event companies in 2010

The latest edition of the Special Events "50 Top Event Planning Companies" list shows that business appears to be stabilizing for the major players in the industry. Taken as a whole, the companies listed project that revenue will be down only one percent this year compared with last. In contrast, the companies last year predicted a median dip in revenue of 10 percent. All told, the companies on the 2010 list represent more than $1.5 billion in revenue. More
