A rookie aldermen suggested that Chicago charge admission to Grant Park tourist magnets like Taste of Chicago and the Blues and Jazz festivals to generate money that can be “re-distributed” to support festivals and public art in Chicago neighborhoods.
Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) raised the unpopular idea of ending the free ride at Chicago's largest festivals seven years after then-Mayor Richard M. Daley rejected a lone bidder's proposal to charge a $20 admission fee and declared that Taste of Chicago would "always be free."

The Singapore government has announced an additional layer of red tape in order for foreign businesses to be corporate sponsors of events held at Speakers Corner in Hong Lim Park.
The new rules mean any foreign business must now apply for a license to be able to sponsor, publicly promote or organize members or employees to participate. According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the new rules are in place to reinforce that the area is intended as a place for Singaporeans.

Organizers say the just-completed State Fair of Texas attracted more than 2.4 million visitors.
The annual expo in Dallas opened Sept. 30 and wrapped up on Oct. 23. The theme was "Celebrating Texas Agriculture."
Officials say the 2016 State Fair of Texas generated more than $56 million in gross coupon sales for food, beverages and rides — a record in the 130-year history of the event.

The creators of Light City Baltimore allege they never assigned any intellectual property rights associated with the festival over to the city of Baltimore or the Baltimore Office of Promotions & The Arts despite claims on the contrary in a recent lawsuit filed by the city. Husband and wife Justin Allen and Brooke Hall made the statement in a letter emailed to friends Wednesday obtained by the Baltimore Business Journal. The letter says they will fight the case and respond to the lawsuit in due time.
