Stop your church from singing this way
By Mark MacDonald
Our church groups and ministries individually create their own parts. They have lots of great things going on, and they want to communicate everything. People close to the church may think it's wonderful. All the different stories, strategies and missions communicating at once. We call these communication silos. They can even sound like great harmonies. Up close. But to reach farther, singing in unison works better.
Responding to media about a church crisis
Church Law & Tax
Nothing can be potentially more destructive than an onslaught of unfavorable news stories. This type of media exposure can influence community opinion of your church for a long time and interfere with your mission. Mark DeMoss, founder of the DeMoss public relations agency, advises churches to head off damaging stories by responding quickly to the media about a crisis. "Depending on the nature of the crisis or impending crisis, you may only have a brief time to get control of the situation," he says.
4 ways to retrain your brain to handle information overload
Fast Company
The pace at which we're exposed to information today is overwhelming to our brains, which haven't adapted fast enough to easily separate relevant data from the irrelevant at the speed we’re asking it to. As a result, our brains become easily fatigued, and we become more forgetful. By using principles of neuroscience, psychologist and behavioral neuroscientist Daniel Levitin says we can regain control over our brains by organizing information in a way that optimizes our brain's capacity.

Will China be the world's largest Christian nation by 2025?
Christian Headlines
Fenggang Yang is a sociology professor at Purdue University and author of "Religion in China: Survival and Revival Under Communist Rule." He believes that "China is destined to become the largest Christian country in the world very soon." By his calculations, the number of believers in the People's Republic of China will rise to 160 million by 2025 and 247 million by 2030. If so, the country would be home to more Christians than any nation on earth.
The wrong kind of Christian
Christianity Today
Two years ago, the student organization that Tish Harrison Warren worked for at Vanderbilt University got kicked off campus for being the wrong kind of Christians. In May 2011, Vanderbilt's director of religious life told her that the group she’d helped lead for two years, Graduate Christian Fellowship — a chapter of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship — was on probation. They had to drop the requirement that student leaders affirm our doctrinal and purpose statement, or they would lose their status as a registered student organization.

Churches must provide a space where people are free to be themselves
Religion News Service
Church leaders often worry that Sunday morning is the "most segregated day of the week." On Sundays, churchgoers gather inside congregations that are remarkably monochromatic. Whites with whites, blacks with blacks, Latinos with Latinos, Koreans with Koreans, and so on. This phenomenon, however, is more than discomfort with diversity.

Decisiveness drives success for companies
By Greg Witz
Some people really struggle with making decisions. Some people just can't make up their minds. Neither can some companies. But if they knew what their indecision was costing them, would they change how they operate? In 2001, Ram Charan, a former faculty member at Harvard Business School wrote an article titled, "Conquering a Culture of Indecision." In it, he talks about companies that have successfully created frameworks for decisive action.

Faith & Leadership
A common refrain among youth in the church is that the elders are not interested in their ideas or leadership. Young people and other marginalized people eventually leave when they become exhausted by church leadership that fails to include them and change with them. Sometimes they start their own churches and communities to nurture and grow in faith, and sometimes they cut their losses and don’t look back.
Richard J. Mouw: Put on the attire of leadership
Faith & Leadership
A halftime visit with the leaders of Notre Dame and West Point reminded an evangelical seminary president that leadership is contextual, as varied as a clerical collar, an Army general’s uniform and chinos with a V-neck sweater.
Playing devil's advocate for the church
Center for Church Communication
Devil's advocate is not a popular position in the church. Christians are strictly anti-devil. All joking aside, too many churches are also anti-inquisitive. In some churches, questions are uncomfortable and unwanted. Regardless, it's critical to constantly inquire why the church exists and investigate the purpose behind our actions and activities. When others don't grasp the importance, this responsibility often falls to the resident church communicator — so here are several important questions to ask.
