NADRA ROCKS!
A note from Glenn Mathewson NADRA Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I'm excited to announce that I am working on a new book branded by Dewalt and published by Cengage Learning, "A Visual Guide to DeckConstruction." Unlike my first book, published by ICC, I'll talk decks outside of just interpreting code sections. In planning for this book, I had an idea ... NADRA members, send me your photos! As a visual guide, I need lots of examples, some will be graphics, and others photos. While I've got quite a collection of photos, I'd like to feature yours instead. If I'm going to discuss applications of hardware, structural screws, under-deck drainage systems, fire pits, decking, nails, screws, concrete forms, lighting, helical piers on and on and on… then why not use photos that can credit products made by my fellow NADRA members. This won't be a buyer's guide, but it will introduce the pro builder to all the new products, ideas and innovation in the deck industry today. That's the plan of course, with your help. Best Advice from NADRA Builders! How would you like your name after that title? Hey, I definitely know decks and have plenty of tricks, but I don't know it all. I'd like to hear and see all the great deck ideas that you guys have, from hiding wires for lights, to mounting guard posts, to some neat trick you've got for stair stringers! Materials, methods, tools, whatever! I'd like to see some special spots throughout the book where NADRA members share their best and show the industry what we're made of. So ... how many times can we get the name NADRA in this book? Let's find out and help build this association even stronger! I can't get NADRA out without NADRA members! Send any inquiries, questions, photos or other to GlennMathewson@NADRA.org For updates and a list of specific photos that I need, go to my website, SaferDecks.com Glenn Mathewson, MCP Deck Industry Consultant NADRA Technical Advisor
The Right to Rescind by NADRA member, David Elenbaum NADRA Blog Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() You worked the prospect and turned it into a quote. You worked the quote and turned it into a sale. You got a start check and ordered materials. Now the guy calls and says's, "I've changed my mind, I'm not doing the job, I want my money back." Can he do that? The answer is maybe. When it comes to legal advice, an attorney is the best way to go to help shed some light on the Right of Rescission. It seems to vary a little from state to state but one thing seems common all over. The customer usually has three business days to change their mind, so if you close the sale on Thursday, they are supposed to notify you by Monday night. Some could argue that the three business days start the moment you sign, so if it is 7 p.m. on Thursday, then it might not be up until Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Ambiguity on agreements is a distracting and often costly issue for deck builders. When writing the verbiage for your contracts make sure you include a Right of Rescission clause that has clear instructions on how to exercise the rescission. More

Survey: Consumers and professionals embrace green products Woodworking Network Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Environmental concerns prove to be an important component for new build or remodel projects for both consumers and businesses according to a recent customer survey conducted by Krantz Select Woods, a leading online wood purveyor headquartered in Austin, Texas. More 1 surefire way to be a better leader American Express OPEN Forum Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Harry S. Truman once said: "It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit." These words are echoed by John Donovan, chief technology officer at AT&T, in a recent New York Times interview. One of the leadership lessons Donovan learned in his career is that "people appreciate you when you play for results, and not for your role on the team," he said in the interview. He added that he learned "that giving credit away, deflecting credit, was an effective thing to do." More The best practices from family businesses Fast Company Share ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Chances are when you hear the term "family business," it conjures up quaint images of friendly mom-and-pop establishments straight out of Norman Rockwell — maybe a corner grocery like Mr. Hooper's Store or a small-town B&B.
