Construction employment rises nationally

Now that the construction season in full swing, the U.S. Labor Department reports that payroll employment in the construction industry in March rose by 15,000 workers for the first gain in the sector since June 2007. The Associated General Contractors of America's chief economist Ken Simonson said the industry's unemployment rate dropped slightly from 27.1 percent in February to 24.9 percent in March, but remained more than double the all-industry level.   • April 15 - Maryland Chapter Meeting at 6 p.m. at PPW-Baltimore. The special speaker will be a Deckspert from Deck Tools.
  • April 20 - Georgia Chapter Meeting at 5 p.m. Location TBA.
  • April 22 - The NADRA Joint NJ/NY Chapter Meeting starts at 6 p.m. and will take place at Myles F. Kelly, Inc., 43-57 Harrison Avenue, Harrison, NJ 07029, 973-481-0600. All builders, manufacturers, distributors and suppliers who want to get involved are welcome!
  • May 13 - Maryland Chapter Meeting at 6 p.m. at PPW-Baltimore. This will be a Deck for a Solider planning meeting.
  • June 17 - Maryland Chapter Meeting at 6 p.m. Location TBA. Vendor night - details to come later.

The new service - unique for a lumber treater - is the application of protective coatings to lumber, timber and steel piles and poles.
