NADRA recently announced the official plans and build schedule for their latest Deck For a Soldier® project. The Minnesota Chapter will break ground on Monday, May 23. Construction will be completed in just five days, with a ribbon cutting ceremony being held on Saturday, May 28!
NADRA launched its Deck For a Soldier® program in 2007; this is a community effort that expresses our appreciation for the service and dedication of the men and women of our armed forces. The project will be completed with strictly donated materials, time and labor. More information about Deck for a Soldier can be found at www.NADRA.org.

Many thanks to the generous support of Marc Currie and the crew at Niece Lumber for hosting our meeting and for the continued support of our growing New Jersey Chapter. Our highlighted speakers provided a well-rounded view on the ever-changing economy, product availability, sustainability, as well as an emphasis on the importance of customer service geared to the "changing" consumer. Special thanks to Kim Griffin of Griffin Consulting Partners, LLC., Ed Chavez of Potomac Supply Corp., and Richard Lane of Viance for taking the time to answer questions after their presentations as well. Home sales are expected to stay on an uptrend through 2012, although the performance will be uneven with mortgage constraints weighing on the market, according to experts at a residential real estate forum at the Realtors Midyear Legislative Meetings & Trade Expo. According to the National Association of Home Builders' Remodeling Market Index, the remodeling market is heading into recovery with an increase to 46.5 in the first quarter of 2011 from 41.5 in the fourth quarter of 2010. This marks the highest level for the RMI since the fourth quarter of 2006. An RMI below 50, however, indicates that still more remodelers report market activity is lower (compared to the prior quarter) than report it is higher. Construction materials prices rise 1.4 percent in April The American Surveyor Share
In what appears to be an ongoing trend, the cost of construction materials prices increased by 1.4 percent in April, according to the May 12 Department of Labor's Producer Price Index report. In a month when the private sector added the most jobs in five years, the construction industry experienced modest gains, adding 5,000 jobs in April according to the May 6 employment report by the Labor Department. Still, the construction industry has lost 42,000 jobs, or 0.8 percent compared to one year ago, and the unemployment rate for April now stands at 17.8 percent, down from 20 percent in March and down from 21.8 percent the same time last year.
