Google takes street view features into hotels

Google is expanding its hotel business by taking its street view technology inside hotels in North America. The first noticeable feature is high-resolution photos when searching for hotels. The photos are taken by photographers trained and certified by Google. The photographs are stitched together into 360-degree views using panoramic camera technology.

OSHA extends comment period on proposed workplace injuries reporting

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced it will extend the comment period to March 8, on the proposed rule to improve workplace safety and health through improved tracking of workplace injuries and illnesses. The proposed rule would amend record-keeping regulations to add requirements for the electronic submission of injury and illness information that employers are already required to keep under OSHA's regulations for recording and reporting occupational injuries and illnesses.

While check-in kiosks and other methods of avoiding the front desk line in recent years have become more commonplace at hotels, integration of mobile technology into the travel process is spurring greater adoption across some major hotel brands. At the same time, some third-party technology suppliers are providing tools for hotels and distributors to offer mobile check-in.

Measuring the benefits of a green hotel

The verdict is still unclear whether going green puts green back into hoteliers’ pockets, according to sources. A recent study, "Hotel sustainability: Financial analysis shines a cautious green light," found, on average, booking revenue neither increased nor decreased for eco-certified hotels. The study analyzed millions of individual bookings in more than 3,000 certified hotels, with a comparison group of 6,000 non-certified properties.

Tallest hotel in America opens in New York City

The hotel being touted as the tallest hotel in North America is open for business in New York City. The property, located near Times Square at 1717 Broadway, is really two hotels in one: Floors six to 33 are a Courtyard by Marriott and floors 37 to 65 are a Residence Inn by Marriott. The 68-story building has 639 rooms in all and stands 760 feet tall.
