Global public health organization NSF International and ASHRAE have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) dedicated to protecting public health by establishing safe management practices for building water systems. Traditional front desks are on their way out from hotels while living room-like public areas coming in, and dual color tones and designs centered on culture are making their way into new hotel projects and redesigns, hotel design experts said.
"We're seeing the dual tones are pretty strong, kind of going from the cool tones back toward warmer, so gray is still huge, but (hotel design colors are) kind of leaning more toward the warmer tones with metal finishes," said Lesley Hughes Wyman, principal and cofounder at MatchLine Design Group.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has launched a waste and materials tracking feature in its Energy Star Portfolio Manager, which is a free benchmarking and tracking tool for commercial building owners and managers.
Commercial buildings and manufacturing activities are responsible for as much as 45 percent of the 150 million tons of waste in the U.S. that ends up in incinerators or landfills each year, according to the EPA.

Earlier this year, The U.S. Department of Labor made waves when it announced the publication of a final rule updating overtime regulations. The new rule raises the salary threshold for overtime eligibility from $455 per week, or $23,660 per year, to $913 per week, or $47,476 per year.
