NASW congratulates Dr. Colleen Galambos on her appointment to the committee for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s new activity, Health and Medical Dimensions of Social Isolation and Loneliness in Older Adults. The committee for this activity will produce a consensus study on social isolation in older adults. Eradication of social isolation is one of the Grand Challenges for Social Work initiative, which is led by the American Academy of Social Work & Social Welfare and supported by NASW. Preventing and mitigating social isolation reduces both the risk and effects of elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Learn more about this National Academies activity and register for notifications of public workshops (some of which will be accessible remotely by Zoom), publications, and other updates.
