March is National Professional Social Work Month. On March 8, NASW is hosting a Twitterstorm during Social Work Day on the Hill to tell the public, policymakers, and lawmakers about the importance of the social work profession in bringing about positive social work change. So join the Twitterstorm on March 8 at 2 p.m. ET/11 a.m. PT to let our nation know about the positive contributions social workers have made to our nation! Use hashtags #SWStandUp and #SWMonth to participate.
This March, National Professional Social Work Month, NASW CEO Angelo McClain, PhD, LICSW, will be going on a national radio tour to talk about the importance of social workers to our society and why the title of social worker should be respected. We will provide audio links to the interviews when possible and give details on the locations as they become available. NASW also is doing radio public service announcements to direct consumers to social work resources that can help them overcome life's challenges. Learn how you can promote the value of social workers and educate others on our education and professional training during Social Work Month.
One of the goals of NASW's 2017 Social Work Month campaign—Social Workers Stand Up!—is to improve the image of our profession and respect for the professional title of social worker. If you come across an article or news story that misidentifies someone without our education, training, and licensure as a social worker, contact the news source to educate them about the title of professional social worker and ask them to run a correction. For more ideas on how to champion our profession and title protection, access the Social Workers Stand Up! infographic.
