Last week legislation was introduced in both houses of Congress to stop the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) from sharing with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confidential psychotherapy notes of detained immigrant children. The practice was being used to deny asylum to some immigrant youths. Recently, NASW along with 40 other organizations signed a joint letter to Congress calling for oversight hearings on the practice, which is part of the Trump administration’s stepped-up immigration enforcement strategy. Learn more from this Washington Post article, for which NASW was consulted and which references NASW’s statement on the practice.
