May is Mental Health Awareness Month. NASW encourages you to educate the public about mental illness. Mental Health America, National Alliance on Mental Illness, and the National Institute of Mental Health provide resources and information for raising awareness about mental illness. NASW also supports the Improving Access to Mental Health Act, which Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA-13) introduced on March 1, 2017. The bill, which currently has 12 cosponsors, would help improve access to mental health services for Medicare beneficiaries.
National Healthcare Decisions Day (NHDD) 2017 was observed April 16-22, but the work of advance care planning continues throughout the year. Read this NASW blog to learn about the social work role in advance care planning and to find resources related to this important activity.
