Incident to Billing for Clinical Social Workers
Medicare allows for clinical social workers (CSWs) to deliver services as an independent provider or as a provider incident to a physician. Know the key Medicare guidelines for CSWs to deliver services under a physician or psychologist. Find out if clinical social workers who want to hire social workers who do not have a clinical license or hire other mental health professionals (e.g., LPCs, LMFTs) can bill insurance for their services.
At any given point in time, there are 2.7 million children with a parent who is incarcerated. The Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs announces two new resources to help social workers address the needs of children with incarcerated parents better, improve outcomes for these children, and expand awareness and understanding of their needs: Supporting Youth with Incarcerated Parents: For Social Workers and its accompanying discussion guide. The Interagency Working Group on Youth Programs promotes collaboration among federal, state, tribal, and local organizations. NASW is a collaborating organization on the two resources.

Abstract
The negative effects of incarceration on child well-being are often linked to the economic insecurity of formerly incarcerated parents. Researchers caution, however, that the effects of parental incarceration may be small in the presence of multiple-partner fertility and other family complexity. Despite these claims, few studies have directly observed either economic insecurity or the full extent of family complexity. This study analyzes parent-child relationships with a unique data set that includes detailed information about economic insecurity and family complexity among parents just released from prison.

Consensus Workgroup Policy Recommendations to the 115th Congress & Trump Administration on Behavioral Health Issues in the Criminal Justice System
The Consensus Workgroup promotes collaboration on policy, research, and practice issues at the intersection of behavioral health and criminal justice. The Consensus Workgroup includes organizations representing individuals with behavioral health needs and their families, providers, correctional systems and administrators, criminal justice reformers, state and local governments, state and local program directors, and researchers. The workgroup urges federal policymakers to take immediate action, as defined, in these key areas: federal support, training, and technical assistance to state and local agencies; federal courts and prisons; behavioral health workforce development; federal research, evaluation, and coordination; and juvenile justice.
