Creating AT Opportunities — Customer, Comfort, Creation

Linda Mazzoli, MS, ATC, PTA, will be presenting "The Business of Athletic Training: Creating AT Opportunities — Customer, Comfort, Creation," at 11 a.m. CT on Feb. 19. The Business of Athletic Training Workshops are designed to incorporate basic business concepts into the tool kit of all athletic trainers. At the conclusion of this presentation, the learner will be able to describe components of a business plan, how business concepts are important for athletic trainers and explain essential components when considering opening a business.

Illinois Bill Looks to Beef Up Concussion Safety for High School Athletes
The State Journal-Register
With concussions in sports taking the spotlight in the past few years, an Illinois lawmaker is looking to reinforce the process for clearing high school athletes with the injury to return to play. Sen. Dan Kotowski, D-Park Ridge, introduced Senate Bill 7, which would establish a concussion oversight team at each school consisting of a doctor and at least one athletic trainer, advanced practice nurse, neuropsychologist or physician assistant with expertise in the field.

Emergency Rooms Busy Treating Winter Sports Injuries in Wisconsin

Now that Wisconsin has a fresh layer of snow on the ground, many people will be hitting the slopes or the ice skating rink. That also means more patients will be making trips to emergency rooms. "Several sports kind of have a propensity for injuries in the winter, skiing and snowboarding being the most common, but we'll see kids who are sledding or ice skating (get injured) as well," said Dr. Matthew Wichman, a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon.
