More than 115 athletic trainers and athletic training students conducted nearly 200 legislative visits on Friday, Feb. 24, during Capitol Hill Day 2012. The group met with 114 legislators to promote the athletic training profession. NATA appreciates all the members who traveled to Washington, D.C., to take part in this successful lobbying effort. An NATM Twitter campaign conceived by District Four NATA member Travis Gallagher urges athletic trainers across the country to tweet about the profession on specified dates and times. By coordinating efforts, NATA members can make athletic training a trending topic. Athletic trainers and their friends, family, former athletes and followers should tweet and retweet as many times as they can at the designated dates/times using specified hashtags. New Guidelines Seek to Prevent Sudden Death in Young Athletes

New guidelines outlining the causes and prevention of sudden death among athletes have been released by the National Athletic Trainer's Association. "These guidelines were developed for any level of sports participation, and to truly help save a life," NATA President Marjorie Albohm said in an association news release. The new position statement includes many recommendations for preventing sudden death among athletes. More

Until recently, few rules existed that governed how concussions were treated among athletes. Last July, Kansas changed that. And professional organizations have come under increased scrutiny to better handle and educate players with injuries.
