The Dietary Analysis Tool for Athletes is a two-hour session provided by the Gatorade Sports Science Institute during NATA's convention in Vegas. The DATA tool is a validated, digital 24-hour dietary recall developed specifically for use with the athlete population. This session will include a demonstration of how to use the tool, a sample of the output the user will receive and a discussion of the potential application of the tool in professional practice. The session will take place Tuesday, June 25, from 8:15 a.m.-10:15 a.m. and feature speakers Mark Kovacs, PhD, and Lisa Heaton, MS, RD, CSSD. More

  Heart Screening for Young Athletes

CardeaScreen is a portable ECG device designed to support accurate identification of life-threatening cardiac conditions in athletes. The Bluetooth device transmits electrical signals from the patient to a Windows PC for analysis. The NATA Ethnic Diversity Advisory Committee is issuing a call for abstracts for poster presentations at the 2013 Annual Meeting & Clinical Symposia in Las Vegas. The posters will be presented during the EDAC Town Hall meeting on the evening of Wednesday, June 26. Individuals may submit only one abstract for poster presentation as primary (presenting) author, but may submit unlimited abstracts as a secondary author. All abstracts will undergo blind review. Submissions are due by April 12. More

NATA Foundation Announces Research Mentor Program

The NATA Foundation is accepting applications for its Research Mentor Program. This initiative helps provide guidance and mentorship to junior faculty members involved in athletic training research by pairing them up with more experienced investigators. Applications are being accepted through May 1. The new class of mentors and mentees will convene in Las Vegas for a luncheon with a where they will meet, network and hear a presentation from a leading researcher. Georgia Approves New Bill On Concussion Safety

More than 3 million. That's how many sports-related concussions occur in the U.S. every year. Georgia's senate passed House Bill 284. It says that any student athlete who shows signs of a concussion will immediately be taken out of practice or games until they're cleared by a doctor. The bill has already been passed by Georgia's House of Representatives. It now goes to Governor Nathan Deal for his signature to make it law. More
