With school districts across the country experiencing troubling budget cuts, NATA has launched a new online resource page to help athletic trainers protect their jobs. The new section of the website offers strategies and resources aimed at educating decision makers on the importance of the athletic trainer in any school athletics program. More

As Japan Donation Recipient

NATA is encouraging its members who wish to donate for Japan disaster relief to do so through AmeriCares, the Connecticut-based relief organization. Since its founding in 1982, AmeriCares has provided $10 billion to 147 countries in need. Japan is still recovering from an earthquake and tsunami last month off its northeast coast. April recess for federal legislators is today through May 2, and many members of Congress will be hosting Town Hall meetings in their home districts. Usually small gatherings, these events are a great way to educate legislators on issues relevant to athletic training. Concussions Still A Hot Issue as Leagues Toughen Policies

The NFL, NHL, MLB and MLS have all toughened their protocols on hits to the head in recent weeks. The NBA does not have a league-wide policy but is working on one. Laws concerning concussions in youth sports have passed during 2011 in five states — South Dakota, Iowa, Wyoming, Colorado and Utah — and bills are working their way through legislatures in other states, according to the National Athletic Trainers' Association, which backs the bills and is tracking them. More
