Sport Safety International and NATA Partner
to Offer Risk Management Continuing Education Courses

Sport Safety International, a division of the Rehberg Konin Group, has combined efforts with NATA to offer a series of online continuing education courses focusing on the importance of sport safety and risk management. Five courses: Pediatric Sport Safety, General Medical Management, Emergency Preparedness, Environmental Sports Safety and Concussion each contain current, evidence-based information. Each course has been peer reviewed by content experts. Athletic trainers who successfully complete all five courses can earn up to 10 BOC CEUs. To register for one or more of the courses, or to learn more about Sport Safety International, visit the NATA Knowledge Center. A portion of the proceeds from each course benefit the NATA Foundation. National Quiz Bowl Field Set

The 10 teams that will compete at the 2012 NATA Quiz Bowl in St. Louis have been determined. Scheduled at 4:45 p.m. on June 28 at the 63rd NATA Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposia, the Quiz Bowl is now in its fourth year and features teams from each district in a two-round Jeopardy!-style competition. The event will take place in Hall 5 at the convention center after the Johnson & Johnson Keynote Speaker. See which teams have qualified. More

Last fall, the National Federation of State High School Associations mandated the use of protective eyewear for field hockey players on its member teams — the Maine Principals' Association had required it for Maine high schoolers four years earlier. The NCAA, which oversees college sports, is now researching whether to mandate goggles for its players. More

Schools Watch for Sports Head Injuries

Dozens of high school students in Greater Boston experienced head injuries while playing ice hockey and basketball this winter, according to a Boston Globe survey of more than 40 leading programs. The numbers, while far lower than those collected by the Globe in the fall for football and girls' soccer teams, show that injuries are not uncommon for area high school athletes who play in winter sports. More

Youth Concussion Bill Expected to Go to Floor in Michigan

A bill aimed at addressing concussions in youth sports is described as "common-sense" legislation by Senate Majority Leader Randy Richardville, even though the Michigan High School Athletic Association already has guidelines in place for dealing with concussions. Detroit Lions president Tom Lewand says the team has unwavering and strong support for Senate Bill 1122, which has three goals. More

Funeral arrangements for longtime Grambling athletic trainer Eugene "Doc" Harvey have been finalized. Harvey served as the athletic trainer at GSU for more than three decades under the late legendary head coach Eddie Robinson. Harvey was inducted into the National Athletic Trainers Association Hall of Fame in 1986. More
