How New Helmet Technology Will Make the NFL and NHL Safer
Bleacher Report
Concussions remain a serious issue in sports, and with the recent White House concussion summit, the discussion has been raised a notch. For the NFL and football at other levels, as well as other collision sports like hockey, the problem is existential. Youth football saw a significant decrease in participation, largely due to the perception of concussion issues. While concussions can never be prevented, they can be reduced.

Spreading Knowledge Can Slow Pace of Elbow Surgery
MLB.com
The frustrating fact about the recent surge in Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgeries is that, for many of today's professional pitchers, it's too late. The damage has accrued over the course of years of max effort or overuse. The rubber band, as it were, is going to snap at some point. But our best hope for curbing the need for this surgery is to get in the heads and hearts of amateur pitchers and their parents.

Athletic Trainers Play Huge Behind-the-Scenes Role with Athletes
Los Angeles Daily News
Hanley Ramirez stopped himself in mid-sentence. The Dodgers shortstop didn't want to discredit anybody, just praise the man responsible for pulling his career out of a confounding decline.
